travel from Canada which is awesome, and my plan is defi nitely to bring something there, but we don’t have anything set in stone”. We let Pasquale know that DJ Mag is ready and waiting to welcome EDC to Canada with open arms before asking him about the radical infl ux of foreign money in the North American event space.
“There’s been a bit of a gold rush, everyone is jumping in it. Many organizations from abroad are talking about coming here and producing festivals, or are already in the middle of doing that. You have big companies like Live Nation and AEG that have jumped into the space, there are so many people jumping into this that no one will do well enough to keep going, that’s scary to me. I’ve seen this happen before … I’ve seen dance music blow up and then fall off, and blow up again then fall off. I look around right now and there’s no one left, there’s no one around from the old days. I look around now, and I’m like where were all these people, forget about 10 or 15 years ago, but where were they 5 years ago or 3 years ago. I decided not to be distracted by all the hype; I just want to keep my head down and keep trying to be the best at what we do”. With the focus that he puts toward the continuous improvement of his events, it’s hard to believe he’s at the helm of a growing family.
When he’s not busy putting together epic dance parties like EDC, Beyond Wonderland, Nocturnal Wonderland, and Electric Forest, Rotella happily plays the role of father to his newborn daughter Rainbow, with girlfriend and original Girl Next Door, Holly Madison.
Even though it started small and took over a decade to really take off, the success of EDC is real life proof that hard work and dedication can turn any dream into reality. What’s gearing up to be the most anticipated and exciting summer festival season of all time would not be possible without one man’s vision. More importantly, the scene would not be what it is today without the fans. After all, as he reaffi rmed on our call “the fans are the headliners”, which is one of the slogans that can be seen on Insomniac’s website and lineup releases. Never suffering from lack of entertainment or imagination, we are certain that EDC Chicago and New York City should both rank near the top of your May festival calendars. Don’t wait for these festivals to sell out like EDC Vegas, grab your tickets now to secure your spot among the crowd and experience one of the world’s best festival brands in action.
