as the parking profession’s rallying call and will be the subject of a panel debate. Representatives from local authorities, government departments, consumers and private operators will share their thoughts on the modern day parking landscape. Audience members will be invited to pitch in with their opinions and questions. And opinions aplenty are expected when representatives of the NoToMob makes its debut appearance at Parkex. The group, which has been highly critical of certain aspects of the profession, will be giving its perspective on parking management. Looking to the future, a number of sessions will explore the wide-ranging world of innovation. There is a cerebral session led by PhD students from Loughborough University, looking at the extensive research that is being carried out to create greater understanding of parking. The BPA will also be sharing the results of its recent research. Town centre management is an area that parking should be heavily involved in, particularly since it was named in the
Portas Review as a contributory factor to the decline of the nation’s high streets. Representatives from the Association of Town Centre Managers (ACTM) will paint a picture of a thriving town centre, where parking operators and local businesses work collaboratively to improve the customer experience. Road safety around schools is a continuing concern, and for highway managers and parking operators it remains a high priority. It is the rationale behind many of the traffi c regulation orders, and with the signs review has been subject to much discussion. The Parkex session will ask whether school clearways or yellow zigzags are more effective and also offer some practical advice on improving road safety. In other sessions, the impact and implications of CCTV and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) are discussed: car park design, particularly refurbishment options are examined and the capabilities of new technologies to help motorists fi nd on- street parking spaces will be demonstrated.
