BPA NEWS IMPROBABLE SAINTS
Alasdair Macmillan, previously head of companies such as PES
and Metric Parking and a former president of the BPA, received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Parking Awards 2013. The award was presented to him by current BPA chair Anjna Patel and recognised his work in championing skills development in the parking sector and the Safer Parking Scheme. The overall winners were Matrix Solutions UK and Exeter City Council for their refurbishment of the John Lewis Car Park in the city, while the Parking Partnership award went to LOCOG Transport, for its work to ensure that parking around the Games venues in London and beyond ran smoothly. Meanwhile sport was also to
the fore through the Parking in the Community Award, which was won by the Beautiful North Community Car Park, which provides matchday parking for Liverpool and Everton football clubs’ home matches. More than 500 people attended the event on 8 March at the Lancaster Hotel in London. Organised by Parking Review magazine and sponsored by the BPA and a number of other businesses, it was expertly hosted by broadcaster and former pop musician the Rev Richard Coles (who was one half of 1980s band The Communards). Coles told the guests that he was the right man for the role because he’d written a book called the Lives of the Improbable Saints, one of whom is a certain Mother Cabrini, the
patron saint of parking. The winners were:
