Why sell it? The ‘Tar Heel State’ of- fers visitors pristine beaches – like Ocracoke Beach and Cape Hatteras Beach, both in The Outer Banks – adventure, history, shopping, mountains and scenery. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469-mile road through the Blue Ridge Mountains – it provided the backdrop in another Daniel Day- Lewis movie: Last of the Mohicans. Gateway city Charlotte rivals Atlan- ta as the South’s shopping Mecca. What’s new? The state’s tourism body is developing 543 experiences that can be found only in North Carolina. Tennessee Why sell it? Memphis draws crowds to the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul and Stax Museums, which pays homage to Memphis musicians like Isaac Hayes, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin. Take a tour of Sun Studio, where Elvis and Roy Orbison fi rst recorded. Nearby is Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. Nashville is known for Country Music, with the Grand Ole Oprey and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Also visit the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg. What’s new? The Pie in the Sky Trail is the latest self-guided driving tour being developed by Tennessee Tourism. Spanning 363 miles it guides tourists to outdoor adventures and historic places
