INDUSTRY COMMENT “Alabama is a key Southern state, with its unique history, music and cuisine. Birmingham is at the centre of this year’s commemorations

to mark 50 years of the Civil Rights movement, while Lonely Planet recommends the Gulf Coast and Mobile as one of 2013's ‘top 10 regions.” Grey Brennan, Alabama Tourism – see USA: Southern States, p34

“We offer great deals for the family market. Our product is constantly being upgraded with excellent hotels and self-catering

interest in the USA being generated by current movies Lincoln and Django Unchained, by gemming up on the region – see our US Southern States feature. Meanwhile, the Association of National Tourist Organisation

Representatives (Antor) asked us to present our 2013 ‘hot spots' at its January get-together. Our top four? Sri Lanka (boosted by BA's new flight in March), the USA (reaping the rewards of Brand USA’s £2.3million marketing boost), Vietnam (now served by a daily service from the UK) and Korea (BA also now flies to Seoul). But perhaps most encouraging of all is that survey after survey

this year suggests that a holiday is always the last expenditure to be axed – so get training and get selling!
