KEC Warehouseman Mac North Reflects on 28 Years at KEC

How many years have you been at KEC?

I began working for KEC on July 29,l 1984 as the Ware- houseman and Meter Tech.

What were some of your re- sponsibilities at KEC? It was my job to keep the ware- house supplied and inventoried with the materials needed to build new services. Also rebuild services for our members after a storm. I took great pride in the warehouse being neat and in order because this makes for an efficient operation for all parties. I also worked with metering and loops. In which I would install and service me- ters to our members.

What is your most memo- rable moment at KEC? The 2002 Ice Storm. I worked outside with the crews put- ting in more than 12 hours a day, seven days a week for 45 days. The long days made it very challenging to keep up the

warehouse, getting materials and poles as needed to get the power restored to our mem- bers. This was the most devas- tating storm I have ever seen and one we are still recovering from.

What will you miss most at KEC?

I will extremely miss being a part of the process to help our members get their power back on. The crews have to have the correct materials on the jobsite and pulled for them to get the power restored. I enjoyed help- ing the linemen in the field as well. It was very rewarding to see the lights come back on for the members. As always, our members appreciate our hard work.

I will also miss the people that I work with. Kay has been a great place to work and Joe Harris has been a great boss and friend to me.

I will miss the dog that adopted KEC as its home, “Kilowatt.”

Do you mind sharing some of your retirement plans? I plan to rest, relax and ride my Harley more. I will spend time with my kids and grand kids and also help my son on his farm. I plan to find a part-time job because I am not one to just sit around.
