The first season of new Amedia channels includes 40 TV series premieres, totalling 30 hours a week

Transmission control “We opted for the Versio units because our research shows that it would provide a complete low cost, yet top quality, playout solution that was well suited to our particular requirements,” states Vernovsky. “At the same time, the Selenio platform offers full cycle of audio and video processing in one box. So it makes for an easy to manage transmission operation.” While there has been some

debate about who should operate a Channel in a Box solution (some say it is a scheduling function, others an IT exercise, still more a graphics procedure), Amedia has opted for a conventional Transmission Controller role. “Each of the multiple Versio boxes provides us with the master control automation, branding, graphics and video server all housed in one 1RU platform. This means playout becomes an easy function in the hands of a transmission controller,” says Vernovsky. He goes on to explain how

the playout equipment integrates with other parts of the transmission/production chains. “We use Broadview as a traffic system. Broadview creates transmission lists for ADC-1000 automation, which operators export before the day’s transmissions. Amedia uses third party network attached storage (NAS) system as near- line storage. Invenio Motion moves the files from NAS to Versio units based on special dub lists from Broadview or upon request from transmission lists or manually.” The Broadview system

enables multiple traffic users to access the logs simultaneously. Similarly, Traffic department personnel can work on the logs without having to wait for programming staff to finish their work. Despite this multiple user function, the system ensures that the traffic log and the programme schedule remain synchronised. “The launch of Amedia’s

pay TV channels, Amedia Premium and Amedia 1, is a key moment in development of our company as a leading broadcast service provider,” comments Vernovsky. “We searched for a technology company to achieve our goals and we have exceeded our expectations by working with Harris Broadcast and RTC RTV. “Our use of systems such

as Versio and Selenio has provided us with a complete,

ergonomically flexible solution that is very reasonably priced and, we believe, represents value for money. What we have now is a complete integrated workflow solution suite that fills our needs and offers the technology that

will enable us to look forward. Our future plans include the launch of a fourth channel in the near future.” www.amedia.ru www.harrisbroadcast.com www.rtvcenter.ru
