with all the necessary approvals to transmit over an uplink antenna to the relay helicopter. The relay helicopter received the three HD transmissions from the mobile cameras, which were sent to the two base sites.
the location was 17 hours by boat; two days to rig everything, including the helicopter; and a further two days of technical tests.
The speedboats were equipped with L1500 transmitters, with amplifiers, and Actis also supplied an RF kit for the camera helicopter,
They had two BGAN antennae at the base for the interview link (via the RF receive site and relay helicopter) to the speedboat. There was a delay of about 150 milliseconds
for the RF signal, within a total of two or more seconds for the total link from the boat to China. Actis also set up three radio channels for the journalist (with the return channel from Beijing), the two directors, and technical comms to co-ordinate the team on site, using a Kenwood base station and Motorola walky-talkies.

XD MOTION, which specialises in aerial camera work as well as wire cameras and tracking systems, provided the Gyron Cine-G gyro stabilised camera head and additional technicians. It also managed the logistics of taking the equipment and crew from Paris to Macapa (the nearest town). The Cine-G used on the helicopter is XD Motion’s newest system, and uses a ‘unique inner gimbal design and steerable horizon, providing roll capability + or – 88º’. It is claimed to be ‘completely stable, even at the long end of the 22x lens on the Sony F-23 camera’. The 45kg head (including
camera) offers 360º continuous pan rotation, with tilt rotation of +45/-75º (adjustable to -125º), and gimbal rates of up to 90º per second. It also has a remote-controlled motorised 2x extender on the Fujinon HA22x7.8 lens. — David Fox
