more than pleased with what has been achieved. “This is the biggest project taken on by OKNO-TV and we worked hard to make RT happy with its new home. We will continue supporting further growth of the facility with the best and most efficient technology available on the market.”
As Bukashkin mentioned
earlier, one of the reasons for the relocation was preparation for expansion. So, what is he
prepared to discuss? “There are new markets to conquer. And our new facility and our choice of equipment mean that we have the capacity to add another channel in another language in a very short period of time. There are new graphic designs that we want to use. There are definitely far more interactive presentations that can be made. All I can say is that we have lots and lots of ideas for the future.”

Newsroom needs Dalet
WITH SO many journalists and producers – more than 1,000 in all — employed across all three language outlets, the newsroom system needed to cope with access from multiple users, including those in remote locations. But there was a requirement to link the resources of the three non-news studios, as well.
In talking about the
newsroom system, Andrey Bukashkin says he was especially impressed by the system offered by Dalet because it can handle the requirements of 300 users at any one time in a stable manner. “We used the HD switch in our Washington, DC studio – which took place a few months ahead of us moving
to our new Moscow facility – to test the Dalet system to iron out any questions we might have raised. That showed we made the right decision.” Alongside their own routing and control infrastructures, each of the six Moscow studios incorporates a Dalet Enterprise core that allows both newsroom and media management
features to be combined into a single application. In all, four separate Dalet sites
are built into the RT operation. First, incoming materials are ingested by the Archive and Production (A&P) site. Once processed, these resources are available to anyone on sites both within the building and remotely via a web browser to bureaux in other areas of the world. And because the news and A&P platforms are synchronised, this will make it easy to exchange material between any future

channels. Recording at XDCAM HD50 format, the system provides 24 HD-SDI ingest ports. In addition, A&P processes media coming in as FTP/internet transfers or from Sony XDCAM ENG crews. Interestingly, while OKNO-
TV is expanding and has established a UK office, Dalet predicts significant possibilities in Russia and surrounding countries and has opened an office in Moscow to offer support for its systems. — By Philip Stevens
