Kinoton enlivens Cinedom for The Hobbit


KINOTONHAS supplied two 4K dual-projection systems to Germany’s fifth-largest multiplex cinema, the Cinedom in Cologne. Installation of the new systems meant that first showings of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journeycould be experienced in XXL 3D on two of the venue’s screens, which are 22m and 19m wide. The film is the first to be produced in HFR, which runs at 48 frames per second and makes for less jerky rendering of rapid movement.


The high-end Kinoton DCS Digital Cinema Solution includes two dual-projection systems, each consisting of two DCP 30 LX II – 4K projectors, which are based on Barco technology, and

EXTRON ELECTRONICS has announced the opening of a new regional sales office in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company’s latest location will provide greater support for its customers in Africa. The facility also includes a


fully equipped training room to showcase the latest Extron technologies and solutions, as well as a meeting space, a demo area, and workspace for an expanding support team. A variety of training choices will be available at the facility, including hands-


on training using real-world scenarios and courses to pursue various Extron Certifications. The new office has already hosted its first Extron Institute: the School of AV Technologies for System Designers, which was due to take place on 23 and 24 January 2013.


“Our office in Johannesburg is another example of our commitment to expand training and make it easier to reach our customers,” said Jérôme Guéras, vice president of sales, EMEA. “We wanted to give African customers the opportunity to participate in training classes in a local facility where they can learn about the newest technologies and see demonstrations of products and applications.
