ILP launches the Lighting Professional Development Framework

The Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) has launched a competency framework to provide an effective, clear development path for lighting professionals in all areas of lighting to develop their career and demonstrate competence.

The Lighting Professional Development Framework is designed for any lighting professional; to assist them with developing their lighting career at any level whether they are a trainee, manager or employer. The aim of this framework is to provide lighting professionals with guidance on possible career paths by providing them with the core lighting skills they need to develop, and possible training and education routes to aid them with this.

As an employer there is a lot to gain through supporting employees by promoting personal development. Employees who are up to date with the latest changes in an evolving industry can contribute more to the organisation and increase technical credibility with customers, which in turn can gain more tenders and contracts. An employee with assurance of engineering competence can give confidence that they have the knowledge, skills and attitude needed. It demonstrates that you have undertaken an independent assessment of your competence and understanding of engineering principles and shown a commitment to keeping these skills up-to-date.

David Burton said “This is an important step forward not just for the ILP but for all lighting professionals. We now have a clear framework for defining career paths and demonstrating competence at all levels of the profession. This complements the processes we already operate for registering members with ECUK, but additionally embraces other areas where competence needs to be demonstrated such as the Sector Scheme and architectural lighting design.”
