INTERIORS INTERVIEW

We catch up with Suzie Ager, Brand Director for INTERIORS UK, to learn a little more about the history of the exhibition and this year’s plans.

How did the INTERIORS UK exhibition first come about?

INTERIORS UK has been a leading trade event in the interior design industry for over 25 years, albeit in a number of different guises. It started out as The Furniture Show but in 2010 was re-branded as Interiors UK incorporating lighting, flooring and accessories in order to provide a more comprehensive offering to thousands of buyers.

What advice would you give to visitors wishing to make the most of their time at the show? Pre-register for free entry at www.interiorsuk.com and plan ahead! There is a full exhibitor list on the website and a comprehensive floorplan in the Show Guide. Exhibitors are showcased in seven carefully categorised areas across five halls. A four-day seminar programme provides education and expert advice on how to succeed in the design and retail business and our brand new Contract Lounge and Showcase in Hall 1 offers contract buyers the opportunity to see a handpicked selection of the very best contract- specific pieces available at the show.

What can visitors expect from this year that they won’t have seen before? The theme for INTERIORS UK 2013 is modern retail, so expect to see many beautiful retail display areas curated by an interesting mix of designers throughout the show. The Designersblock Department Store in Hall 2 provides a unique twist on today’s retail experience and introduces over 20 fresh-faced future stars of the design world. Matt Rawlinson, an award-winning Designer who specialises in creating contemporary social environments, is designing the sumptuous Contract Lounge in Hall 1. Brand new to Hall 4 is the Pitfield Café and pop up shop – another example of modern retail and an extension of the Pitfield lifestyle brought to London by the infamous Shaun Clarkson.

How did Nina Campbell get involved as Guest Designer this year? We select a Guest Designer that we feel has particular relevance to our audience in terms of their past experience and future aspirations. Nina Campbell is one of the world’s most respected and influential interior designers. She has had her own shop in London for 35 years and so can really relate to both visitors and exhibitors, whether they are contract, residential or retail focused. We are delighted that Nina has agreed to design the main entrance and individual entrances to each hall as well as providing an insight in to her success as a retailer by re-creating a smaller version of her shop in Hall 3.
