Nightclub Lighting

The Wonderland nightclub in Norwich, UK, has benefitted greatly from the use of SGM’s LT-100 3D pixel tubes that dance across the ceiling.

moving heads, LED video, control and smoke products to create the perfect atmosphere for the venue. After visiting the Martin Professional booth at Prolight+Sound back in 2011, Djamegari “left the booth with the impression that he had not only found the right products, but also the right partner to fulfill his vision,” said Martin Germany’s Stefan Wagner, who oversaw the lighting and visual installation at GIBSON. The brief was to create an outstanding, multi-functional and easy to use system that was LED only. Two circular truss structures were created as well as four crescent-shaped truss structures mounted on the ceiling overlooking the dance floor. A final third section of truss sits above the front of the stage to add to the theatricality of the installation. A total of forty Martin MAC 101 compact moving heads, eighteen MAC 350 Entour LED fixtures and twenty-two MAC Aura wash lights are configured across these trusses. Wagner is delighted with how the installation has come together; “The MAC 101’s are perfect beam lights that create stunning effects not only from the different positions on the ceiling, but also from their position on stage, they create a fast and bright wash effect inbetween the LED panels”.

Back across the pond and SGM’s

LT-100 3D pixel tubes have been used to great effect for the Wonderland nightclub in Norwich, UK. The Wonderland venue is loosely themed on literature’s famous Alice, with references to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and the White Rabbit. The venue commissioned SGM to create a centerpiece for the venue, made up of 220 1-metre long pixel tubes, suspended over the main dance floor.

The centerpiece is a ceiling of dancing lights that are constantly changing with colour chases sent in waves or bars across tubes. To create further dimension, 66 strings of SGM LB-100 LED light balls are interspersed, swimming along the length of the display from the ceiling. The installation was conceived by Mark Damon of lighting and sound specialists, Cosmic Electronics, in conjunction with Ian Kirby at SGM’s UK distributors, LED Projects. In the set up at Wonderland, Cosmic has drawn heavily from the SGM catalogue. Although the LT-100 provides the wow factor for the venue, there are also four SGM LED X-5 strobes down each of the two stage columns, eight SGM Galileo scanners, twelve SGM Idea Beam 300s and eight Idea LED 300s — as well as forty Idea Par LED RGB stage cans, with twenty four of these being

deployed in the second ‘retro’ 1970’s disco room.

Atmosphere is so important in a nightclub environment, and the right lighting scheme can allow guests to get lost in the music.
