believes young women must be careful to protect their good name. “I say, Don’t be a pin cushion. You want a rela- tionship that’s not just sex — because your reputation fol- lows you,’’ she says. “You have to teach your kids, No, don’t think of the moment, think about the big picture.’’ She argues that marriage

politics are
straightforward: “I consider myself a libertarian. I am fi s- cally conservative and a con- servative person in general, but I do realize this is 2013. I don’t look at everything as Republican and Democrat. I think our

should be for life. “If you don’t like the way the guy hangs his clothes or snores, or she brings her mother around too much, you don’t pack up and run,’’ Manzo admonishes. “You made a commitment. Something made you believe you could spend your life with this person. Marriage is work — hard work — but the reward is great.’’ The show is also hard work, with its long hours of
shooting and the many explosive fi ghts that erupt between the housewives and are witnessed by millions of viewers around the world. While candidly admitting the show has caused her “tre-

Chris Christie, the ponderous governor of the Garden State, should be able to run for president without the issue of his weight in play. “Only if it aff ects his job performance. If it doesn’t, Shut up!’’ she says. She has no political aspirations herself, at least not at the
moment, but is quick to add: “But never say never.’’ As for what’s next after Housewives, Manzo says any-
thing’s possible, even a role in a Hollywood movie if the right project comes along. “I never aspired to be in the entertainment business, but
here I am. So I say, Why not?’’ she says. “I always tell them to reach for the brass ring. There’s no shame in failing to reach it. It’s the shame of not reaching.’’
My favorite president
is George W. Bush. He is a very courageous man. He never backed down or made
apologies. That takes courage and character.
My favorite movie is Gone With the
Wind. Scarlett was a head-trip and Rhett did everything he could to make her happy.
