West Point Takes Aim at the Right

f west point is choosing a side in the culture wars, then conservatives
are outfl anked. The U.S. military academy recently
issued a report describing progressives as “future oriented.” Movement con- servatives were characterized, mean- while, as belonging to one of three groups: “anti-federalist,” “fundamen- talist,” or “racist/white supremacy.” The report, titled “Challengers
From the Sidelines: Understand- ing America’s Violent Far-Right,” was written by West Point professor Arie Perlinger. Perlinger, who is director of West
Point’s terrorist studies curriculum, wrote: “The far right represents a more extreme version of conservatism.” He also opined that strong conser-
vatives work to exclude minorities and foreigners, while liberals “emphasize civil rights.” Commented one GOP staff er to The Washington Times: “If [the Defense Department] is looking for places to cut spending, this junk study is ground zero.”
Lynn Jenkins: The United States won’t default, if Senate does its job.

model of its ever-popular iPhone in the works, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. Faced with stiff competition from Samsung, Apple is reportedly design- ing a lower-end model, which could include composite plastics and even cloud storage to cut back on costs. The current iPhone uses costlier aluminum. Another cost- saving measure would be to recycle parts from older iPhone models.
The Wall Street Journal cites sources close to Apple say-
ing the iPhone’s smaller cousin — dubbed the iPhone Mini — could be launched later this year. No doubt part of Apple’s strategy is to saturate the market with choices to thwart rival Samsung’s increasing market share globally though, for now, a recent Apple lawsuit prevents Samsung from selling its phones in the U.S.
