TOP 100 DJS PARTIES GO OFF! A great night for Armin as he’s voted No.1 for the fifth time

The Top 100 DJs parties on Friday 19th November — at the Convention Factory in Amsterdam, and the Ministry Of Sound in London — were suitably riotous affairs. Armin van Buuren was crowned the World’s No.1 DJ at the Amsterdam event that was part of ADE, and he then flew to London by private jet to headline the Ministry party — and soak up more plaudits.

In the build-up to the awards shows, the DJ Mag Facebook page started posting the countdown from 150-100. This included revealing that stalwarts of dance music such as Fatboy Slim, Sven Väth, James Zabiela, Erick Morillo and, eventually at around 6.30pm, Sasha (No.103) had fallen out of the Top 100. The online response to these events was the predictable mixture of bemusement and wonder.

As the evening progressed, the countdown from 100 began. Sander van Doorn warmed up the crowd in the Convention Centre in Amsterdam, and excitement began mounting to fever pitch. As the numbers on the big screens tumbled down to No.6 (Hardwell), the countdown stopped and the awards ceremony began. Dennis Ruyer, the Dutch radio equivalent of Pete Tong, began presenting awards to Headhunterz (Highest Hardstyle), Porter Robinson (Highest Climber), Nicky Romero (Highest New Entry) and so on whilst others — Carl Cox (Highest Techno), Nervo (Highest Female DJs) etc — sent their thanks by way of a short acceptance film.

Dennis then introduced Idris Elba, star of The Wire and a dance music fan, who in turn introduced a short film inducting veteran house DJ Danny
