Out and About Pulsar

Millenia Tower Marina Centre, Singapore 4

Fixtures from Pulsar had to leave any fear of heights behind in order to create a stunning illuminated effect for the Millenia Tower in Singapore. The landmark building is now home to 608 Pulsar ChromaRange LED fixtures, comprising 368 TriColour ChromaFlood200s in the Apex and 240 TriColour Chroma AR111s in the transom windows, on the four corners of the building below the pyramid. Pulsar’s fixtures were chosen for the scheme after a competitive process to find the right solution for the complex brief, all in time for the 2012 National Day Celebrations. The Millenia Tower is owned by Pontiac

Land Group, who approached lighting designer Marc Largent of Magic Monkey to design a lighting scheme that would interact with the events during Singapore’s National Day Parade, which is located very close to the building. Largent then called on various lighting manufacturers to submit proposals

that would fill the ‘pixel dimensions’ of the Apex, whilst remaining hidden. The Pulsar R&D team got straight on the case, developing a custom Lens Plate and Snoot for the ChromaFlood200 to fit the pixel dimensions cleanly and to hide direct light from the fixture. Rigorous testing of beam angles and light output allowed Pulsar to prove its ability in providing excellent light distribution, a wide variety of shades and colour temperature of white, along with smooth dimming capabilities. The solution from Pulsar also offers an integrated cable- management solution of Quicklink, a single lead carrying both power and DMX data that has produced a considerable saving on installation time and cost, plus the ability to address and configure the fixtures remotely through Pulsar Fixture Management (PFM).

Lights in the project are controlled by a state-of-the-art system from d3 technologies that feeds through Pulsar’s data distribution infrastructure of 14 DS5 Data-Splitters to the 40 ChromaZone controllers and 368 ChromaFlood200s. The installation has been a real collaborative effort between Pulsar and its consortium partners, DiMeLED Pte and ARW Engineering. The finished project is one that serves to highlight the beauty of the Millenia Tower at night, cementing its position as one of the most beautiful sights in the Singapore skyline.
