PLASA Review Robe

Bright Lights, Bright Future

As the incredible PLASA London makes its move to the ExCel for October 2013, we take a look at how exhibitors found their final PLASA at Earl’s Court.

Rosco

Robe enjoyed a fabulous and highly eventful PLASA 2012 exhibition at Earl’s Court. In addition to a busy 4-day expo, the Czech moving light manufacturer launched seven new products, won a 2012 PLASA Innovation Award, raised £6,200 for industry charity Light Relief with the auction of a genuine Olympic Torch and hosted a great party on the Sunday night. Robe’s ‘Working With Winners’ campaign, launched earlier this summer, embraced new and innovative levels of excellence and excitement, with Robe CEO Josef Valchar commenting: “It was an incredible PLASA all round for us – carrying on what’s been an amazing year”. www.robe.cz

Clay Paky

Rosco had an excellent time at this year’s PLASA, using the show as an opportunity to contribute to the Light Relief charity. Several years ago, Rosco innovated the concept of ‘a colour that keeps on giving’ and Rick Fisher created Supergel 313, Light Relief Yellow. Rosco committed to make a donation to Light Relief from the income generated by the sales of the colour. This year’s cheque presented by Mark Engel, Rosco’s CEO, brought Rosco’s contribution to Light Relief to $28,076. www.rosco.com

As a proud Sponsor of PLASA 2012, Clay Paky were delighted to welcome all of its customers onto the Clay Paky/Ambersphere stand, and onto their exclusive lounge/demo-room area. The company had a great response to the presentation of A.LEDA, the new Clay Paky RGBW-LED moving head range, featuring A.Leda Wash K20, A.Leda Wash K10 and A.Leda Wash K5. A.Leda models have a library of pre-set graphic effects customisable by the operator, electronic linear dimmer, stop/strobe effect and a dedicated channel for colour temperature setting. Each LED colour can be dynamically and individually controlled. Also on the stand was the Alpha Profile 800 ST and GlowUp Strip 100. www.claypaky.it

ETC felt that their stand at PLASA 2012 was better than ever, with a range of new and updated products on demonstration, including the new Source Four Dimmer. Also, seen for the first time in the UK, ETC’s Layers of Light theatre on the stand offered a short presentation visibly demonstrating the power of ETC’s Selador x7 LED colour system, as well as offering a close-up look at the different Selador Desire LED luminaires and the new Source Four LED spotlight. As part of their presentation, ETC staff then showed how LED light works well with conventional incandescent sources to layer light onto a stage, using the best attributes of both types of light sources. www.etcconnect.com

5 Star Cases

5 Star highlighted samples of its most popular product ranges for the entertainment industry, concert touring, television and theatre markets. Over the four days of the show these all attracted plenty of interest, with some deals also completed on the stand. 5 Star’s MD Keith Sykes commented that visitor quality was “generally very good”. 5 Star has had an extremely busy year so far, and now looks forward to a new era of PLASA with the 2013 event moving from Earl’s Court, its home for many years, to London’s Excel Centre, where 5 Star has already committed to a large stand. www.5star-cases.com
