POKER

Entraction to close in December

GTis to close down its Entrac- tion poker network, with a dra- matic drop in liquidity cited as the cause. Operators have been advised to switch to a new network before 11 December. IGT only purchased Entrac- tionlast year for SEK700m (£68.5m) but dis- tanced the network from some of the ‘grey’ international markets such as Israel, Cana- da and Russia.

I An IGT spokesperson said: “As part of our

regular business process, we have been evaluating our resources, products and markets from a commercial and compliance perspective. As a result, we are consolidat- ing our product development, allowing us to combine a number of locations and focus on the most attractive opportunities.

“We remain focused on our interactive casino/slot offering, which has experienced steady growth; as well as our successful so- cial gaming offering with DoubleDown Casi- no and look to integrate the Entraction prod- ucts into our overall set of platform offerings. “Change and uncertainty in European market conditions have diminished the ex- pected returns in certain real money wa- gering products. As a result, we are consol- idating our product development. We are maintaining our options for future changes in market opportunities. This decision is purely focused on our European dotcom business and does not impact future deci- sions regarding entry into new markets as regulation, taxation and commercial op- portunities arise.”
