story of the greatest engineering landmark on four wheels. T at’s what the Veyron represents: it is an event, a statement of sheer superiority. It is a Formula One project for the public road, it is all of these things and more. T e Vitesse gets a mildly absurd umbrella
that clips into place as an emergency cover if it rains. From afar the combination of traditional Bugatti Blue side skirts, splitters and wheels and dark blue body section looks a touch 80s, too. But get close and that dark blue reveals its secret: its naked carbon-fi bre tinted blue that costs about £150,00 to replace. T at is just one of the optional extras that
can take a £1.6 million car to over £2 million without too much trouble. Hermes leather and even platinum on the centre console are other possibilities, but if you want diamonds in the instrument binnacle, and that really happens, the price just goes skywards.

But then the Veyron has no real rival. Even the Koenigsegg and Pagani are diff erent strokes for diff erent folks. T is is a car that anybody can drive, ludicrously fast, that anybody can enjoy, that anybody can drive across a country if they can handle the insane fuel consumption and a car that is as cosseting and easy to drive as it is missile fast. T ere will never be another like this. So even
if you do not love it then take a step back and appreciate an incredible feat of engineering, a landmark, and perhaps the greatest car we will ever see.
