Desert Palm, DUBAI

A private world of lush green fields and palm trees surrounded by dramatic desert, the Desert Palm is a truly unforgettable Arabian dream

S

et on a luxurious polo estate with a vast and beautiful desert as its backdrop, Te Desert Palm could easily be mistaken as a mirage within

the magnificent sandy dunes. Te exterior showcases the elegance of local architecture whilst the interior displays modern, chic design and bursts of colour and light. After checking in, my partner and I are shown to our room, a Palm Suite located on the top floor. Once again, I am struck by the impressive design of the place. Te colour scheme is relaxing and the artwork on the walls is unique and adds a lovely personal touch. I have a look at our private bar and top of the range Nespresso coffee machine while my partner tests out the business and entertainment centre, flicking on the 40” flat screen with its Bang & Olufsen surround sound system. As well as the constant

Wi-Fi internet access there was also an Apple I-pod and a DVD player available for us so we’re definitely happy with the in-room entertainment. Taking a look out of the window raises our mood even more as we drink

in the views of the retreat’s polo fields and, a little further away, the breath-taking Dubai skyline. Feeling hungry, we head to Rare Restaurant, the hotel’s contemporary European grill. Te ambiance is smart and very relaxing but it is the food that provides the main talking point. To start I choose Norwegian Salmon Tartare, which comes with well-presented balsamic jelly, salmon roe and brioche toast. Te flavours work incredibly well together and the basil oil on the plate is proof that attention to detail really does pay off. My partner chooses the Atlantic Lobster Bisque with truffle foam and lobster dumplings and he takes his time to savour the flavours and really enjoy this beautiful starter. For the main course I select the whole steamed sea bass while my partner cannot resist the chervil crusted lamb rack.
