Withington Girls School

W

hen the Employers and Education Taskforce compiled its 2012 report on careers guidance in schools,

its researchers turned to Withington as a beacon of best practice – one of only six high performing independent schools interviewed. Withington’s acclaimed advice on careers

and regionally unrivalled expertise in securing places at top universities – 92 per cent over three years; second in the entire country according to the Sutton Trust - provide pupils with a further ‘edge’ alongside their consistently outstanding examination results. T is year the School’s candidates achieved a 96% pass rate at A*, A and B grades at A Level - ensuring the vast majority secured places on very competitive courses in the highly selective universities of their choice. T e pass rate at A* and A grades was 80 per

cent and 32 girls scored passes at A* and A grades in all their subjects. Twenty-three per cent of all examination entries were passed at the A* grade - nearly three times the national average!

In the GCSE examinations, candidates

scored 98.6% A*, A and B grades. T e pass rate at A* and A was 92.4% and 73.5% of papers – a remarkable 500 in total - achieved straight A* grades. T ese outstanding successes were achieved despite Withington’s adoption of the more demanding International GCSE qualifi cations in mathematics and sciences and the OCR Level 2 National Award in ICT as better preparation for their A-level courses. Withington’s lively, friendly, happy and

purposeful atmosphere nurtures independence of mind and high aspirations and girls relish the chance to engage in a vast range of exciting extra-curricular activities.

Pupils come from a wide geographical area –

many by dedicated bus services - and the School community is proud of its multicultural and multi- faith nature and inclusiveness. One in six Senior girls receives means-tested bursary support.
