SOUTH PACIFIC
undeveloped South Pacific, with only simple accommodation, head for Tonga.
What's New Jetset has produced its first South Pacific Travel Planner, offering Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Samoa, the Cook Islands and Tahiti. A wide choice of accommodation is available, including Le Meridien Noumea in little-known New Caledonia. Air Pacific is to be re-branded as Fiji Airways next year, reverting to the name it had from 1958 to 1970. The move will coincide with introduction of three Airbus A330-200 aircraft to replace Boeing 747s on routes including Los Angeles. A new luxury resort, The Brando, is set to open on the French Polynesian island of Tetiaroa next year,
with 47 luxury bungalows. The film Mutiny on the Bounty starring Marlon Brando was made here. Samoa Air has launched services
between the two main islands of Upolu and Savaii, providing an alternative to the 60-minute ferry crossing.
Tourism Talk
JANE WEST UK/Ireland Market Representative Tourism Fiji
“We are looking forward to our annual roadshow, the Bula Bus, starting on September 10. A destination re-branding will be announced soon as part of our Eight Pillars of Change, and this will include a new website, social media developments, and a global PR and advertising campaign. We now have
really good air connections including four flights a week from Los Angeles, two a week from Hong Kong and three a week from Seoul.”
ALISON CRYER Director UK & Ireland, Samoa Tourism Authority
“Samoa is still an off-the-beaten-track destination, perfect for agents looking for an authentic Polynesian South Pacific experience. "Accommodation is affordable, too,
as staying in a beach fale can cost as little as £20 per night while Seabreeze Resort, the latest luxury boutique retreat, starts at £110 per night. Samoa Tourism is rewarding the agent that makes the most bookings by October 1 with a £200 shopping voucher.”
