installationnews UNITED KINGDOM New kit for Old Billingsgate By Erica Basinicki

OLD BILLINGSGATE, one of London’s largest ‘blank canvas’ venues, has been fitted with a new sound system, provided by AV installers LCI. The installation included a Soundcraft Vi1 digital mixing console, JBL and Martin Audio loudspeakers, and Crown amplifiers. Specifically, a Martin Audio W8LM mini line array forms the core of the audio system. LCI specified two left/right hangs, each comprising five W8LM

elements and a W8LMD downfill unit per side – supplied by Capital Sound. The low end is derived using a pair of Martin Audio WLX subwoofers. A total of four MA5.2K DSP amplifiers and an MA12K DSP amplifier for the WLX subwoofers power the system. A number of JBL Control 1

Pros were installed as infills for the upper and lower mezzanine, powered by Crown CDi1000 amplifiers, and 14 JBL PRX 615M self-powered monitors were installed as delay speakers.

“These PRX cabinets

are superb for medium dispersion but long-throw audio, ideal for additional delay or fill coverage,” said LCI project manager Carl Miller. As for the Soundcraft Vi1,

this was chosen “for its highly intuitive operation, its pure sounding processing and the sheer capacity of such a physically compact desk”. Old Billingsgate is divided

into three spaces; the vast 2,600sqm main space, with its

Carl Miller and Luke Bennett. Project engineers were Huw Micklewright and Duncan Wood. n www.harmanpro.com www.martin-audio.com
