Some 50,00 people are expected to visit the RAI during IBC 2012
EUROPE IBC 2012– part 2
In the second of our IBC previews, we focus on some of the products set to make an impact at this year’s event
MORE THAN 50,000 people from across the international media
spectrum are expected to descend on the RAI between 6-11 September for this year’s IBC, with product debuts aplenty. Joining a range that includes
a 3U format, the new 1U Oslo chassis audio-over-IP codec from APT supports 16 channels of audio and was developed in response to evolving broadcast sector requirements. Despite the smaller footprint,
the new 1U product is fully DSP- based with dual power supplies and hot-swappable modules; it also retains the modularity of its larger 3U counterpart, offering the ability to add up to four audio-over-IP modules. Significant enhancements to the Broadcast Manager monitoring service have been announced by Audemat. New for IBC 2012 is the ability to drill-down from a Broadcast Manager map directly to the
control panel of an individual unit. With no need to launch an external application and with centralisation of each user’s security and access privileges on each unit, this new development facilitates ‘one-click access’ to the most detailed of data right from the map overview.
The Artemis Light – the
newest member of Calrec’s Artemis family of Bluefin2/ Hydra2 audio consoles – is on show at IBC 2012. New as of this event is a compact processing console for the Artemis Light that is dedicated to delivering DSP and routing capabilities in a 4U enclosure. Like all Artemis consoles, Artemis Light incorporates Bluefin2 high-density signal processing and Hydra2 networking technologies in the same compact, scalable control surface used by Artemis Shine and Beam. Employing the same hardware and software architecture, Artemis Light
R-88 8-CHANNEL RECORDER AND MIXEREXCLUSIVE! THE ROLAND
R-88 will be launched on both sides of the (English) Channel this September – at IBC in Amsterdam and PLASA in the UK. Designed for a variety of professional needs, this 8-channel recorder/mixer provides a portable recording and mixing solution for situations where there are multiple microphones on location and music recordings with more than four microphone channels. The R-88 is a multi-track, SMPTE compatible, SDHC/SD card recorder with eight XLR inputs/outputs and the recording capability of eight tracks plus two-channel stereo mix at 24-bit/96kHz, or four tracks at 24-bit/192kHz. Uncompressed recording in
broadcast wave file format assures “outstanding sound quality”, says Roland. Each of the eight XLR inputs has phantom (+48V) power and onboard effects including limiting and low cut on each channel. Studio class effects such as the 6-band graphic EQ and a de-esser can be applied while recording or simply for monitoring/playback. A USB AUDIO I/F feature means that the R-88 can also
act as an audio interface to a computer (PC or Mac) when connected by USB, appearing to audio software on the computer as 10 individual inputs and 8 individual outputs. The USB host terminal of the R-88 enables high-speed and instant backup of recorded data to affordable and easily obtainable media like Flash Memory, Memory Cards via card reader or HDD storage. www.rolandsg.co.uk
