Authentic EV at Glastonbudget

Glastonbudget covers a wide variety of genres By Erica Basnicki

GLASTONBUDGET, Europe’s largest festival for tribute acts returned to Turnpost Farm this year, with headliners including T-Rexstasy, Ultimate

Erasure, and Absolute Bowie among others. Nottingham event production company OneBigStar provided sound, video and lighting, opting for an Electro-Voice XLC system for the audio.

“With 160 bands over the

three days, we had our hands full,” says Simon Taylor, OneBigStar’s commercial director, “so we needed a sound system that would sound great, was utterly reliable and offered a high degree of flexibility.” Two hangs to the left and right

of the main stage, each comprising 12 XLC elements and 19 Xsubs provided sound, along with an 11m delay tower with 12 XLCs and six Xsubs. Six Electro-Voice XLE elements provided front fill, a Dynacord XA2 provided side fill, 16 Xw15A two-way monitors were used for foldback. On the second stage, Taylor

chose four Dynacord Cobra-4 Top, four Cobra-4 Far, eight Cobra-PWH and four Sub 28 enclosures, and 12 CXM 15 monitors with EV amplifiers. “The solutions we adopted had to cover a wide spectrum of genres, from acoustic music to swing and techno,” explains Taylor. “They passed the test with flying colours.”n www.electrovoice.com

FRANCE ‘French Glasto’ mixed on Eclipse By Erica Basnicki

THE 2012 edition of one of France’s biggest music festivals, Les Vieilles Charrues, was mixed using Innovason Eclipse consoles. Headliners for this year’s ‘French Glastonbury’ included Bob Dylan, The Cure and Sting, as well as big-name French artists. Recording the performances

was Sombrero & Co, who used an Eclipse at each of the main stages, connected to a DioCore stagebox. On the main stage, an additional Muxipaire stagebox was added for performances by Sting and The Cure, which required 80 inputs each. Each show was recorded onto the Eclipse’s onboard M.A.R.S. recorder, with post-fader input recording handled by three MT-128s

The Cure at Les Vielles Charrues

from VB Audio – the same recorder that is inside the Eclipse – in order to keep an exact copy of the live mix destined for the TV channels. Sombrero & Co’s Benoit

Gilg, who engineered and headed up the sound recording team, was pleased with the Eclipses’ performance. “For me, the Eclipse is simply the most intuitive console available on the market today,” he stated. n www.innovason.com
