livereport GERMANY Sequenza 10 Reloaded By Dave Robinson
IT MIGHT not have the international profile of many festivals, but the seventh edition of the Reload Festival, which ran from 15-17 June in Sulingen, northern Germany, still dealt fans a superior roster of rock acts. Headliners included Slash, Dropkick Murphys and The BossHoss, while New York band Biohazard, Dog Eat Dog, Madball and others proved to be highlights. Over the years the event has
grown from a small gathering in a back yard to a substantial event featuring more than 30 international artists. Once again a Kling & Freitag Sequenza 10 system was used to provide sound reinforcement for the event. This set-up was first used at Reload in 2007; since then it has been continually adapted to cope with the increasing number of bands and spectators. This year, a total of 15 Sequenza 10 mid-his were hung per side with 22 Nomos XLC subs. Line 212 cabinets were used for outfill and frontfill, and also to eliminate the ’hole’ behind the FOH mix position. The system was powered and managed with K&F SystemRacks. Thorsten Rokahr from technical service provider mks Veranstaltungstechnik says he was satisfied with the operability and the reliability of the set-up. “I like working with the SystemRack: it works well and it is very compact. The LS blocks in the SystemRack enable me to quickly load all basic parameters for all Kling & Freitag loudspeakers into the controller, so I quickly get a system that functions perfectly.” Heiko Sievers was at FOH,
where the local console was a Yamaha PM5D. Nevertheless several bands such as Guano Apes and The BossHoss brought along their own consoles, which were rapidly integrated into the system. Bertram Zimmermann was
responsible for system design and setup: “For the Sequenza 10, I chose the full-range LS block, and I provided it with a low-cut at 80Hz in order to realise system peak levels of more than 126dB at the FOH position.”
He added: “Rigging [Sequenza] is very easy and quick, I cannot configure any other system as quickly as this.” The 2012 edition of Reload
once again proved to be a success, even if the weather was
not always as bright as the crowds may have liked. The Sequenza system also went down well with Slash FOH Toby Francis, who was keen to know what PA he was working with. n www.kling-freitag.de
