engineer/producer in a beautiful location and away from day-to- day distractions means that bands are more relaxed, focused and inspired, which enables better results for them. “The studio is not aimed at bands with lucrative record deals who like to have an SSL desk in the studio even though they are recording using preamps directly into a computer. The equipment has been carefully chosen to enable a quality professional recording and still be able to offer the residential experience at a price affordable to unsigned bands and cost-conscious labels.” The recording system at Montesa is “a combination of the very latest high-tech hardware and software alongside some very high- quality equipment from the past few decades” and centres on a combination of Steinberg, Yamaha, Cubase and

international acts. “We’ve had everything from acoustic guitar players through jazz fusion to thrash metal bands. The most unusual one we had was an Australian living in Brazil on a European tour with a French band,” says Reid who adds that, like other studios in Spain, business is tough at present. “There are lots of special offers, and a lot of studios in Spain are

pushing engineering courses, presumably because they are not getting bands in to record.” And any plans for expansion?

“No, none at all. Our original business plan was to end up with exactly what we have at the moment, serving our target market in a personal but professional manner, at affordable prices.” n www.montesaaudio.com

PARISIAN POST-production companies Digimage Cinema and Piste Rouge have invested in Meyer Sound’s EXP cinema audio systems, specified and installed by Paris- based systems provider 44.1. The company was appointed as an EXP dealer earlier this year.

Both houses have installed Acheron studio screen channel loudspeakers, X-800C subwoofers, HMS-10 surround loudspeakers, and a Galileo

loudspeaker management system with Galileo 408 processors. In addition, Piste Rouge’s smaller auditorium 2 is fitted with the more compact Acheron Designer loudspeakers.

“There’s more definition at the high end of the spectrum, lower distortion, improved clarity, greater headroom, and very good phase stability,” commented Digimage Cinema’s Serge Arthus. n www.meyersound.com
