The Model 5140 offers an easy-to-use I/O panel for remote broadcast and infrastructure applications Studio Technologies

Intercom module to welcome ‘guest’ users

By Michael Burns

THE MODEL 5140 Intercom Interface from Studio Technologies is making its debut at IBC2012. The new module provides a unified connection interface for party line (PL) and 4-wire (line-level) intercom systems for professional audio and broadcast markets. According to the company, this offers a reliable and easy- to-use I/O panel for remote broadcast and infrastructure applications. Studio Technologies specifically designed the Model 5140 to allow ‘guest’ users, including media crews, OB vans or uplink trucks and temporary equipment to be quickly and efficiently linked to ports on a host intercom system. Two input and two output signals, either analogue or digital, are typically connected to ports on a facility’s matrix intercom or fibre optic-based signal

Gekko Technology

Dualling LEDs + remote phosphors make better quality television light

By David Fox

GEKKO IS launching a new colour tuneable version of its popular LED-based karesslite. Called the Dual, it will be available in both wide and narrow formats, with output calibrated in 100K increments between 3200K and 5600K. The calibration process ensures a greater degree of accuracy at a given pre-set, as well as comparable accuracy from lamp to lamp.

At either end of its range the lamp

doesn’t rely on a single colour LED to produce light, which means it can create a broader spectral output. It will be available on both the 85W 6006 and 6012 karesslites, and Gekko’s new, smaller-format karesslite, the 65W 2006. Measuring 30cm x 15cm it will be available in single phosphor/single colour, colour tuneable (the Dual), and remote phosphor versions. Remote phosphor hasn’t really been seen in LED lighting before, although several companies are adding it to their

transport system. Model 5140 contains a 4-wire to 2-wire converter and intercom power supply circuitry to provide a 2-channel broadcast-standard party-line intercom interface. This allows users to directly connect PL beltpack devices, as well as interconnection with existing party-line circuits. Two auto-null circuits provide high quality audio performance. The Model 5140 also contains two analogue 4-wire (line level) inputs and outputs on standard 3-pin XLR connectors. These are provided so that ports on a guest intercom system can be directly connected, as well as being compatible with a wide variety of application-specific equipment. Status indicators and audio level meters help to ensure that optimal performance is maintained. 8.E72

Single-Cable Fiber Links Get You On the Field Fast

Play to Win with Telecast Fiber Production Solutions

The teams you cover play to win. You play to deliver winning coverage. That means getting closer to the action for unmatched angles to deliver incredible fan experiences and enhance your monetization opportunities.

While traditional approaches keep your competitors tethered to the bleachers, our ultra light-weight links put your crew’s video and communications gear onto a single pencil-thin fiber cable to rapidly acquire, transmit, and deploy their best shots. And do it all quickly and reliably. From the world’s largest sports events and marquee venues, our fiber optic links can help your production crew get right to the action.

Even better: The new karesslite 2006, with remote phosphor technology

ranges. The fixture uses high-power blue LEDs to excite the phosphors in an acrylic sheet, “which emits light in a very even way. It gives a much broader spectral output than a single phosphor creates,” explained Ian Muir, Gekko’s business development manager. Although there is a colour spike, this is much less than normal LEDs. “It is not as efficient as a single phosphor, but the quality of light is better.” 11.E35

Able to handle virtually any kind of digital signal at any bandwidth, our fiber optic links carry all the signals at a fraction of the weight. Whether you use fixed, mobile, or robotic cameras, our solutions will help your crews get incredible shots onto every screen, inside and outside the venue.
