TVBEurope 69 IBC2012 Preview MicroQuad

€799 Quad SDI-to- HDMI Multiviewer

By Carolyn Giardina

THE NEW MicroQuad, a 4-channel SDI-to-HDMI multiviewer from Matrox Video Products Group, is now available for 799. Recommended for uses including in OB vans, on- set production, and live event coverage, the device lets users monitor up to four SDI inputs on a single HDMI display in quadrant view, or toggle to a full-screen view. Inputs can be 3G or HD or SD, and all controls are on the unit itself, meaning that a computer is not required. Added features include: VU meters on the HDMI output to give a visual indication of audio levels, a Windows- based application to control the unit from a distance via a standard mini USB Type B cable, the ability to create customised labels to identify each input, and a development library that allows OEMs to integrate features of the remote control application directly into their own software.

Pro-X: Live view

THE NEWXW-HDU04 HD Wireless Transmission System from Pro-X is designed for live realtime viewing on field monitors in HD, with latency of less than 1 millisecond, writes David Fox. The system includes a built-in HDMI to HD-SDI converter, as well as external antennae for a more stable connection — offering communication over distances of up to 300m in open space. One transmitter can connect to multiple receivers and can carry fully uncompressed high definition images, with embedded sound. It can be powered either by battery (V-type or three-stud battery) or by DC input via an XLR four pin connector. It also has a back-up power failure function. If the external

Some of the features were added since the initial announcement of the MicroQuad earlier this year. Said Charles Amyot, product manager at Matrox: “Interest in Matrox MicroQuad has been overwhelming from broadcast engineers and A/V professionals who often encounter situations in which they need to monitor multiple SDI feeds. We listened to their feedback and added the additional features they requested, yet retained the original breakthrough price point.” 7.B29
