RIEDEL IS showcasing its new RockNet SI expansion card for digital Soundcraft SI consoles at this year’s IBC. The RN.344.SI card, which

is expected to ship at the end of the third quarter of 2012, fits into any Soundcraft SI console’s expansion slot. In its first firmware release, the card will support 32 inputs and 32 outputs to the RockNet system. A world clock output is available at the front panel.

A rotary switch is provided for device identification and selection of up to 16 programmable routing tables. The RN.344.SI enables the

respective Soundcraft product to become a part of the RockNet digital audio network and enables remote control of any RockNet microphone pre-amplifier. Dalet Digital Media Systems New look and more for Galaxy By Michael Burns

DALET GALAXY, the latest version of Dalet’s enterprise Media Asset Management (MAM) platform, is being showcased in Hall 8. Dalet Galaxy includes a BPMN 2.0-compliant workflow engine that has been specially tailored to media workflows, advanced tools for searching and indexing and expanded support for new standards such as AS-02 and FIMS. Additional new features include Dalet One Cut, a realtime, multitrack video and audio editing platform, aimed at multimedia journalists and

content prep operators. Also new is Dalet Xtend, a module that provides for exchanges of videos, shot lists, EDLs and their metadata between NLEs and the Dalet MAM. It is now available for Avid Media Composer and Avid NewsCutter in addition to Apple Final Cut Pro and will shortly be available for Adobe Premiere editing systems. In addition, Dalet Galaxy now features a revamped graphical user interface, completely updated to meet modern usability standards that will provide a consistent look across all applications.

According to Dalet, the new

BPM workflow engine meets specific workflow needs of broadcasters and media companies and makes all of the operational and business processes fully visible. Managers can see the workflow in total as well as at the granular level. They can monitor the internal progress of each workflow step and pinpoint the status of assets in the workflow so priorities and tasks can be adjusted and reassigned to ensure that deadlines are met. The BPM workflow engine includes easy-to-use tools for designing and modelling

“MANY BROADCASTERS around the world are switching from cameras with 2/3-inch sensors to those with PL mounts that give a full-frame 35mm picture, such as the Sony F3, F35 and F65, the Arri Alexa, as well as Red and Canon cameras — and therefore they need lenses to go with them,” according to Les Zellan, chairman and owner of Cooke Optics, which is expanding production with

more new staff at its UK factory to meet increased global demand for PL glass. “Digital images are clean and

pure but don’t have much personality; Cooke lenses handle colour and contrast in such a way that they give a warm, organic and much more visually pleasing quality known as the ‘Cooke Look’ that audiences respond to, while still retaining full resolution to beyond 4k. This filmic quality is what persuades broadcasters and filmmakers to choose

Cooke lenses time and again,” he claimed. Recent high profile projects that

have been shot with Cooke lenses include the Emmy Award-winning television series The Borgias and M. Night Shyamalan’s forthcoming feature After Earth — the first feature film to be shot on the Sony F65 camera. At IBC, Cooke is showing its

three ranges of lenses, S4/i, Panchro/i and 5/i, including a prototype of a 65mm lens for the Panchro range. 11.D10

Yamaha, Studer and Soundcraft consoles as well as a MADI unit for integrating consoles from additional brands. RockNet allows consoles from various manufacturers to operate simultaneously. RockNet is a digital realtime audio network that provides up to 160 digital audio channels over a single counter-rotating CAT-5 ring. It offers audio quality with up to 96kHz/24-bit and a dynamic range of up to 117dB. Based on a redundant ring topology, RockNet is described as forming a self- healing redundant network with no loss of audio in case of a connection fault between two devices. 10.A31

Dalet claimed would simplify

the workflow for operators and ensure compliance to established procedures. 8.B77
