Technical point
Among the exhibitors will be the Railway Technical Research Institute from Japan, the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education and the China Academy of Railway Sciences. The Technical University Berlin is also represented at the show, where it is featuring a number of research projects including a plug-in control cabin and a new system for monitoring the condition of freight wagons. The German Aerospace Centre will be using a full-scale mock up at InnoTrans to demonstrate innovative construction methods for double deck rail vehicles. Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is Europe’s largest applied research organisation and
nine of its institutes will be featured. Joining them is Fraunhofer-Allianz Verkehr, which was established to present innovative solutions that meet the specific needs of the manufacturers of rail vehicles, railway companies, infrastructure operators and the providers of logistical services. GETTING THERE
Exhibitors, visitors, invited guests and accredited journalists at InnoTrans 2012 can benefit from the comprehensive travel service offered by Messe Berlin, the show’s venue. There is a travel and accommodation package, which includes assistance in finding hotel rooms. Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn are offering
special fares to Berlin. Lufthansa is giving discounts of up to 10 per cent between 11 and 28 September. Deutsche Bahn is doing a deal between 16 and 23 September 2012, offering cut price second-class return fares on domestic routes. Messe Berlin offers a comprehensive travel
service where air or rail travel, as well as hotel accommodation and a permanent trade fair pass, can be booked as part of a package. For hotel reservations that are not part of a package, other partners of the event, such as VisitBerlin and HRS, offer online hotel bookings at favourable rates.

or the first time at this biennial trade show, an entire exhibition hall will be occupied by a single country.
Japanese companies are presenting an unprecedented range of technological innovations for the rail sector at one central location. China will also be making its presence felt, with the two largest Chinese manufacturers of locomotives and rolling stock, CSR and CNR, exhibiting for the first time. Visitors will be able to find CSR and CNR in Hall 9, where the China Academy of Railway Sciences and other exhibitors will also be represented, providing information about the latest innovations from the country’s railway industry. Yang Xiong-Jing, manager for global business development for CNR says: ‘We are making use of this leading trade fair in order to study the market and we are looking forward to presenting our rail vehicles to the world. High speed trains, powerful locomotives, metro rolling stock and freight wagons – we are presenting our complete range of vehicles at InnoTrans 2012.’ Taiwan and Korea are also bringing national displays to the show.
