Show time! S
eptember sees Europe’s biggest transport show, InnoTrans, open its doors in Berlin. Taking place from 18-21, the tradeshow is expecting more than 2,400 exhibitors from 47 countries and around 100,000 visitors from 100 nations.
Those visiting the show will be representing public and private transport enterprises and operators; manufacturers and suppliers of transport technology; public administrators and government officials; construction companies; trade associations and institutions; and the media.
The show will be divided into five themes: Railway Technology, Railway Infrastructure, Tunnel Construction, Interiors and Public Transport. The InnoTrans Convention, taking place at the same time as the show, features a series of meetings and seminars, including the International Tunnel Forum based around a series of discussions with international guest speakers.
Deutsche Bahn’s Rail Leaders’ Summit will also take place at the convention, offering transport ministries and general
managers of international rail transport companies a chance to meet.

Since the last InnoTrans in 2010, the number of exhibition halls representing Public Transport has doubled to six halls. An even larger international spectrum of products reflects this growth, among them innovations from the passenger safety, passenger information and communication technology sectors.
Data management systems, ticketing systems, consultancies and traffic management systems will also be at the show. A range of rail vehicles will be on show in static displays on the Messe Berlin tracks located outside the exhibition halls. More than 50 per cent of the companies exhibiting in the Public Transport section are headquartered outside Germany. They include Alcatel-Lucent International SAS from France, Giro Inc. from Canada, Mitron Oy from Finland and the Hitachi Zosen Corporation from Japan. Netinera Deutschland, Germany’s third largest rail transport company, will also be represented at InnoTrans 2012.
As the countdown to InnoTrans 2012 begins, Rail Professional takes a look at what will be on offer
‘The fair is the ideal platform to present our ever-widening range of activities to an international audience of experts, to cultivate existing relations and establish new ones,’ says Nicole Knapp, head of marketing and communications for Netinera.
The number of combined national and regional displays is set to increase at InnoTrans 2012. A total of 37 combined displays from 22 countries will allow exhibitors to present their products and services on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds. This year’s newcomers are Hungary and the United States. In addition to industrialised nations from Europe, countries such as Brazil, Australia will also be bringing trade delegations. The combined displays are organised by industry associations, ministries of economic affairs and business development organisations. The work of these institutions makes it possible for small and medium-sized enterprises to take part in the event. The Railway Industry Association is organising two combined displays at InnoTrans for the UK. Tim Gray, international business development
