Products & applications Waste management & recycling Agitators aid conversion process

Mixing specialists Chemineer have been chosen by Cynar as its engineering partner for agitation at the UK’s first waste plastic- to-diesel plant at Avonmouth near Bristol. Initially, four top-entry Chemineer agi- tators will be installed at the new End-of- Life Plastics-to-Diesel’ facility (ELPD), which will utilise Cynar’s conversion technology that transforms otherwise

landfill-bound waste plastics into valu- able liquid fuels. Forming a crucial ele- ment in the roll out of 10 proposed SITA sites across the UK, each plant is designed to convert approximately 6,000 tonnes of mixed waste plastic pa, specif- ically targeting mixed waste plastic diverted from landfill. In excess of four million litres of end-of-life plastic will be converted into specification diesel fuel. Chemineer provides process solutions to the chemical, water and wastewater treatment, plastics and resins, petro- chemical, pulp and paper and pharma- ceutical industries. Chemineer

Pumps facilitate waste latex handling Börger has been helping reduce downtime at a UK waste manage- ment company, despite taking on a difficult pump application. Chemwaste utilises three Maintenance-In-Place Börger pumps to handle highly abrasive waste latex with a high solids content that is just part of the company’s six-stream manifold system. Site manager Dave Walton, says:

“Börger’s pres-

surised pre-chamber system pump has dramatically reduced downtime because our previous pumps became blocked up almost constantly and had to be taken out of service for complete stripping down”.

Compactor saves £50,000 costs a year

Manufacturer of polymer solu- tions, Manuplas has recorded a £15,000 saving on waste removal costs after investing in specialist foam Excell Environmental Solutions compacting technology. Manuplas secured funding from The European Regional Development Fund to contribute towards the cost of the com- pactor. Since commission, the compactor has produced around 60 dry, contamination free foam logs. Collaboration with local attraction, Dartmoor Zoological Park, has enabled a perfect part- nership to be built.

Landia has helped a soft drinks manu- facturer achieve exemplary standards in its treatment and discharge of effluent. Landia’s DG-I 80 Air Jet has been installed in the final effluent tank before discharge to reed beds. Mounted on a tubular stainless steel frame in a butyl- lined above ground store, the 3kw Landia Air Jet transfers oxygen into the liquid to start and aid the biological process, cleaning the wastewater and keeping solids in suspension for treat- ment further along the process. Landia’s Paul Davies says: “We’re keen to develop a relationship with Landia whereby the best possible wastewater treatment solution could be reached”. A spokesperson for the manufacturer

adds: “The equipment is proving ideal for our final aeration process - and the support we’ve received has exceeded our expectations”. Landia

with “logs” to be used for animal enclosures and pathways whilst at the same time reducing its own carbon footprint.

Heger foam compactor technol- ogy allows processing of all foams including cross-linked EPE foam of which this application

required. The machine supplied was a Lion 300 B1400 EPE, EPS, compression system delivering a compression ratio of up to 50:01. Excell Environmental Solution and Manuplas conducted machine trials using their own material to ensure machine per- formance. The compactor will enable Manuplas to make cost savings of up to £50,000 per year. Manuplas’ long term goal is to eventually use the recycled foam material within its own products for which trials are in place. Excell Environmental Services T: 0870 428 2688. www.excell-es.com

Pallet box suits waste recycling Goplasticpallets.com will introduce the GoBox 1311 – said to be

Europe’s largest plastic pallet box at the RWM exhibition later this year thought to be suitable for waste recycling.

Designed by Belgian manufacturer IPS, the GoBox 1311 measures 1,300 x 1,150 x 1,300mm and has a storage capacity of 1,400 litres. It is available from stock in blue or dark grey and as standard comes on three runners which means the box can be tipped using a suitable fork lift attachment as its rigid design easily withstands the pressure cre- ated during this process. A conveniently-located stacking rim and anti- slip pads allow the box to be stacked securely up to seven high. Impact resis- tant corners and reinforced cavities ensure the box has a long service life – in most cases up to 10 years – and a built-in label holder makes it easy to track and identify goods.

Optional features include secure fit- ting lids, corporate personalisation with a choice of name, logo or number- ing, and an extended colour range available upon request for orders in excess of 500 units. Goplasticpallets.com T: 01323 744057

adds: “We knew this application was going to be an extremely tough challenge but by Chemwaste giving us the oppor- tunity to work with them and understand their process, we’re pleased to have provided pumps that make life easier.” Börger T: 01902 657076 boerger-pumps.com Enter 319

Baler unveiled at RWM show

Baler and recycling equipment engi- neers Middleton Engineering will be showing what is said to be the UK’s first pre-press, twin-ram baler at 2012 RWM. For waste management companies and councils dealing with municipal waste, and exporters requir- ing optimised container weight, this baler has been engineered to withstand a press force of over 200 tonnes pro- ducing very dense bales and building in capacity for upgrading. The British-made baler’s pre-press technology combines the strength of the twin ram with the speed of a chan- nel baler for faster throughput and will be used on plastics, cardboard, paper, cans, hard plastics, some WEEE waste together with aluminium extrusions. Called the Middleton ME2R150P, it is also said to be the first baler to combine both wire and plastic tie capabilities in the same machine, making it quick to switch from different waste streams such as cardboard, which requires wire ties, to RDF which uses plastic. Middletons believes it is the first

European manufacturer to produce a square section bale of 1,050 x 1,050 x 1,400mm, designed to cut loading and handling times by a third. The opti- mised bale size can be more easily loaded and any wrapping protected to provide operators with a cleaner, more hygienic solution, while maximising the payload.
