Selling Long Haul magazine is pleased to announce its fi rst Dragon Boat day in association with its friends at the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Macau Government Tourist Offi ce
DATE: THURSDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER , 2012 VENUE: LONDON REGATTA CENTRE, DOCKSIDE ROAD, LONDON E16 2QT TIME: MIDDAY – 7PM
themed around one of the most colourful and iconic activities of the Far East region. Teams of 12 will race against each other in a series of heats, building to a grand finale and the chance to become Selling Long Haul’s Dragon Boat Team Champions 2012. Alongside the races there will be plenty of riverside action too to keep guests entertained, with lots of fun Hong Kong and Macau themed activities designed to bring the flavour of the Far East to London. Cheering on dragon boat crews is thirsty work and the event will culminate with a prize-giving ceremony and an early evening BBQ with plenty of cold beers!

Racing will start from early afternoon and teams are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and snacks, or to buy food at the venue. Please note, for safety reasons, alcohol cannot be served to participants until the racing is complete. This exciting occasion combines a traditional celebration with an action- packed sporting event. Legend has it the Dragon Boat festival honours Qu Yuan, an imperial adviser and poet, who drowned after throwing himself into a river to protest against corrupt rule. Today, paddlers in long, slender boats
with dragon heads and tails race to the beat of pounding drums, in a re-enactment of villagers’ desperate efforts to save Qu Yuan. It’s guaranteed to be a great day, so
