“The Hobbit movies will put New Zealand centre stage for movie-goers around the globe”

STA Travel is following up a campaign with Tourism New Zealand which focused on young travellers by promoting working holiday visas, which offer under-35s the opportunity to work in New Zealand for up to two years. It gained exclusive access to the visa when it acquired BUNAC in 2011. New Zealand Tourism’s newly-

Malaysia Airlines has introduced Airbus A380s on its daily service from London to Kuala Lumpur, with onward flights to Auckland. Tourism Talk DANIELLE GENTY-NOTT

Regional Manager UK & Europe Tourism New Zealand

“There were 2.6 million visitor arrivals to New Zealand in the year to April 2012, up four per cent. Of this, 216,000 visitors were from the UK, representing a decrease of three per cent year on year. Considering the challenging economic times, we see this as quite positive. It is certainly a tougher climate in the UK at the moment as consumers are more cautious about spending. However we still feel that we offer a great-value destination and are working hard with our partners to increase our share of visitors. “The Rugby World Cup provided us

with a great opportunity to raise our profile on the global stage as a holiday and event destination, and we believe that the word of mouth generated by UK visitors returning from the

tournament will increase preference for New Zealand this year.”

wilderness, culture, gourmet experiences or fantastic journeys, there is definitely an option in our New Zealand journeys. We also offer very cost-effective city breaks to the country's major cities – Auckland and Wellington – and a much wider range of hotels now from three to five star and luxury lodges."

KAREN JOYCE Regional Product and Purchasing Manager Austravel

“With the strong NZ dollar we have noticed that people are far more price conscious – and that is reflected in the type of holidays they are booking. Escorted touring, where all meals and excursions are included, are still popular. "There has also been an increase in

more independent travel, with campervans, self-drives and flexible hotel passes popular. New Zealand is an easy country to travel around and its size allows so much to be seen in even a standard two-week break.”
