CHARGED WITH SUCCESS

Electric vehicle (EV) charging company POD Point, has supplied more than 2,500 wall-mounted and post charge point units – figures that beat US manufacturers, who operate in a greater domestic market.

A solely UK manufacturer, POD Point exports to EU countries, as well as supplying the UK market with home charge points and public (street) charging infrastructure. Predicting the market for EV charging in 2009 was largely the result of ‘blue sky’ thinking arising out of the recession’s impact on his previous business – a membership club renting supercars – said POD Point CEO Erik Fairbairn.

‘Governments were pushing for the adoption of low-carbon technologies, and the motor industry was ready to take up the challenge of launching affordable family cars – making the conditions ripe for developing EV charging technologies,’ he said. The company also supplies software support

services to the Office for Low Emission Vehicles, as well as to energy companies operating in several European countries.

business and found myself in an unmanned car park without any CCTV, the filthy lifts were covered in graffiti, and the exit took me out onto derelict ground, so I was very nervous about going back to retrieve my car later that day. ‘However Q-Park has taken extensive measures to ensure the public feel safe when using their customer- focused parking

destinations. A number of the parking facilities have secure access – where customers have to use their parking ticket to gain entry to the car park. There are also a number of additional services to help the customer, including free umbrella and buggy loan and, in case of emergencies, jump starters and heart defibrillators with trained staff to assist.’

and horizontal movements, and to ensure a completely watertight deck. As the movement joints are manufactured, supplied and installed in-house, USL director John Taylor insists full responsibility for their performance lies with USL StructureCare. ‘Critically, the joint is designed to interact perfectly with car deck waterproofing systems, in a bespoke total waterproofing solution,’ he said.
