ONLINE PARKING REDUCTIONS

Two types of online RingGo parking permits are providing up to 60 per cent discount on parking for Milton Keynes’ residents. The commuter parking permit is now just £4 a day in a long-stay, on-street

parking area near the station, while monthly and yearly permits cost £74 for 30 days, and £888 for a year’s cover.

In addition, Milton Keynes Council’s existing RingGo business employee permits offer up to 60 per cent discount to people working in the town centre. Motorists can apply for permits via the internet, providing proof of residency or employment electronically, as required. No physical permit is required in the vehicle, as payments and permits are checked using the mobile phone number and vehicle registration details provided.

PROMOTING STANDARDS

UPFRONT & PERSONAL

Trials to establish the potential of personal video/audio recording equipment in the bailiff industry have been branded a success by debt collection agency Whyte & Co, and its technical partners Edesix.

Dismissing

limitations that had frustrated previous attempts to introduce the technology to the sector, director of development Alan Wood said: ‘Audio recording-only may demonstrate a conversation had taken place, but misses out on other vital factors, such as body language, the type of premises

and other people in or near the bailiff. ‘Our staff feel

this technology has improved their working environment and protects them from false or exaggerated allegations. Throughout our trials, which started in June 2011, debtor attitudes have undoubtedly changed. Our staff report a reduction in aggression towards them and lone females are happier to let our staff into their properties.

‘The video/audio recording leaves no place for the

unscrupulous bailiff to hide, thus providing total transparency.’

JBW Group chief executive, Jamie Waller, has been elected to the executive council of the Civil Enforcement Association (CIVEA) for the coming year. An independently funded association,

representing private certifi cated bailiffs in England and Wales, CIVEA promotes higher industry standards, and provides a code of practice for bailiffs and civil enforcement agents.

METRIC ELITE ORDERS

A three-month survey of residents by

Richmondshire District Council (RDC) in North Yorkshire found a resistance to credit card parking payments. And so instead of upgrading the ageing existing stock to accept new coinage, the

council is investing in a range of new coin-operated pay-and-display parking machines for 11 of its car parks. These machines are capable of future upgrade to bank note and credit card acceptance.

The council placed its order with Metric Parking for the Aura Elites machines, in both mains and solar confi guration. In addition, fi ve new Accent tops are to be installed on existing Autoslot pedestals.
