SAFER PARKING SCHEME

SOUTHERN METEOR ARRAY

Southern Railway car parking facilities, managed by Meteor Parking, has chalked up another 12 sites to reach a total of 41 station car parks now accredited under the scheme.

Even with geographical challenges, the commuter- based facilities – boasting good maintenance, regular visiting, good lighting and electronic surveillance – have kept any issues to a minimum, rendering Southern and Meteor ‘worthy holders of the award’, said Mike Bibby, development manager – South East. ‘Once again, Southern and Meteor Parking Ltd have maintained their standards for the Safer Parking accreditations to continue, and I must congratulate all personnel involved,’ he added.

PUTTING STUDENT SAFETY FIRST

The University of Cumbria’s two main campus car parks, at Fusehill Street and Brampton Road, have been certified as some of the safest car parking places in Carlisle with the award of Park Mark status. Presenting the certificate to Professor Peter Strike, University of Cumbria vice chancellor, Cumbria Constabulary chief constable Stuart Hyde said the award demonstrated

the university’s commitment to maintaining site safety for all of its students, staff and visitors. David Oxlee, assistant regional manager, said: ‘We continually promote Park Mark to our clients and this award shows how well the university and Excel (the parking operator) have worked together to meet the high standards set by the Safer Parking Scheme.’

CHICHESTER’S UP TO THE MARK

TICKING the BOXES

Lessons learned and advice taken on board set Harborough District Council parking facilities in good stead for its latest Safer Parking Scheme inspections.

Making six Park Mark awards for the area, scheme development manager, Michael Gardner, commented that the sites were generally ‘very well

maintained’, adding that he was pleased with initiatives taken, including internal fortnightly inspections to ensure facilities were up to internal standards, as noted on their checklists.

He also commented that it was good to see that advice had been taken on improving arrow markings and adding extra Park Mark signs.

Chichester District Council (CDD) has retained its Park Mark accreditation for 16 facilities, after recording only nine relevant crime-related incidents in the past 12 months, despite an annual vehicle throughput in excess of two million. Re-assessments were carried out by Phillip Edwards, Sussex Police accredited assessor, and Mike Bibby, who acknowledged the efforts of Robert Clark, parking services manager, in maintaining standards, adding: ‘All personnel involved are to be congratulated in maintaining safe and non-threatening environments for users’. Further facilities in Chichester’s rural areas will be considered for possible accreditation later in the year.
