BPA WINS MEMCOM AWARD
The BPA is celebrating after its newly-designed website received a Highly Commended Award at the recent 2012 MemCom Awards.
A representative from digital agency, Senior, which developed the site with the BPA team, is shown collecting the award at the ceremony. MemCom (short

for ‘Membership Communications) was founded in 2002 and is a resource for membership bodies, charities and not-for- profit organisations. The development of the website was overseen by Dave Smith, a member of the BPA’s communications team, who continues to manage the site. While the team is delighted to have its efforts recognised, it continues to make enhancements to the site and is always looking for suggestions from members as to new features or content they would like to see. Feedback should be sent to dave.s@

A new collaboration between the Irish Parking Association (IPA) and the BPA was launched at the impressive Titanic Belfast in May, presenting greater opportunities for networking and information-sharing, and strengthening the relationship between members in the north and colleagues and members in the south. The Titanic Belfast was opened in April 2012 to mark the centenary of the launch of the ship Titanic from the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast.
The meeting was one of the first events held in this impressive building, which gave delegates not only the opportunity to enjoy a varied programme of presentations, but also spectacular views over the dockyard. The meeting was opened by David Orr, permanent secretary of the Department for Regional Development in NI, who emphasised the importance of cross-border co- operation on transport issues and welcomed the joint initiative of the BPA and IPA working together to provide support for their members. The programme then commenced with a joint presentation by Ann Collins, of the Inclusive Mobility and Transport Advisory Committee (IMTAC), and Hugh Larmour of DRD Roads Service on Blue Badge use and its enforcement in Northern Ireland. This was followed by a presentation by Conrad Kirkwood, Department of Health and Social Services, NI, on the soon to be published results of the Consultation on Hospital Parking in Northern Ireland.
Following a presentation by Ciaran
Lynch TD, chair of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Republic of Ireland on Working Together Across The Border, delegates were updated on the European Parking Association (EPA) Congress, which
is being hosted by the Irish Parking Association in Dublin in 2013. Nick Lester, president of the EPA, gave a brief overview on some of the work being undertaken by the EPA, while the IPA shared a video presentation on some of the exciting opportunities that will be available to delegates attending the Dublin Congress.
The day concluded with a presentation by Fionnuala Donnelly, from the Driver and Vehicle Agency in Northern Ireland, and Simon Richardson, of DRD Roads Service NI, on the Cross Border Pilot Scheme on Vehicle Keeper Details. A full report on the pilot will be available soon. The event was supported by a small exhibition of 10 companies, and special thanks go to the sponsors, Advanced Parking Solutions and Euro Car Parks.
Everyone agreed that the day had been an excellent opportunity to gain updates on the important work being undertaken in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as being able to network with colleagues.
The next meeting of this joint group will take place in Dublin later in the year hosted by the IPA. Full details will follow in due course.
