BPA’S ANNUAL CONFERENCE
This year’s BPA Annual Conference (www.
britishparking.co.uk/Annual-Conference), which will take place at Kensington Conference and Events Centre on 27 September 2012, will examine how parking services can infl uence and enhance our towns and cities.
Entitled People, Places and Parking, the event will look at the following topics: ■ High street review and the relationship between parking and town centre prosperity; ■ Emerging technology and the role technology can play in improving places and making parking easier for people; ■ Social responsibility and educating the public; ■ The psychology of parking – what governs people’s parking behaviour? Why is it such
an emotive issue and cause of confl ict and contention? How can we use this information to infl uence and bring about positive changes in motorist behaviour? ■ Residential parking schemes; ■ Diversity – making parking accessible for all in today’s diverse population; ■ Local transport plans – using them for effective collaboration between different providers of parking; ■ Impact of the Protection of Freedoms Act; ■ PR and communications; ■ Engaging with the community; ■ Crime reduction and safety; ■ Charging strategies – variable tariffs/pre- booking of parking spaces/discount schemes for local shoppers; and
■ Capitalising on the evening and nighttime economy.
The conference programme will take the form of a number of masterclasses, which will involve small groups, as well as enabling us to include a wide range of different topics to suit our diverse audience. We are currently seeking expressions of interest from anyone who wishes to present at the conference. To submit a paper for a topic that fi ts in with the theme, please send the title and a short synopsis to Alison.t@
