TIM STARKtim@starkprofilespr.co.uk QUICKIES DJ Feel

24.01.11 Infinity 8.0

Best Feel track in ages. Beautifully separated progressive, melodic and finally euphoric sequences have ‘24.01.2011’ more than holding its own in the big rooms.

Matthew Dunne

Arctic Island Discover 7.0

Dunne manages to get both funk and feeling behind this balmy Balearic-minded trancer. Easily the pick of Discover’s bountiful crop this month, this is one for the beach.

Ruben de Ronde & Aelyn

Gone Statement 7.0

Aelyn proves her stunning turn on ‘Angel’ was no fluke. Beautiful voice, edgy delivery and rock-solid remixes from Wezz Devall and Progressiver make this one to check.

Susana & Rex Mundi

All Time Low Coldharbour Recordings 8.0

Title of the year thus far for me, and the track’s no let-down either. Extremely worthy follow-up to Rex & Susana’s flawless ‘Nothing At All’.

Super 8 Alba

(Maor Levi Remix) Anjunabeats

9.0

Originally appearing on Anjunabeats in its relative infancy, this is among the label’s most deserving of bring-backs. In charge of this exemplary recalibration, Maor Levi powder-kegs ‘Alba’ with a bang up-to-date sound and FX range. That this churning, often grungy bottom-end blends so well with ‘Alba’’s still incredibly fresh, not-in-the-least-bit- overblown euphoric top-line is a testament to both the original artist and remixer.

The Madison

When You EP Enhanced Progressive 7.0

Three more offerings of super-chilled trance-prog from The Madison. The title track wafts in seaside atmosphere, amplifying it with a drifting, somewhat distrait vocal. By degrees, ‘Chords’ is the most strident of the trio, allowing a bit of distortion to creep in amongst all the wind- chiming melodica. ‘Calling On’ wraps the EP up and is maybe just a bit fluffy and unnecessary. Overall, though, a reasonable EP.

ANDY MOORAVA RECORDINGS

01. ASHLEY WALLBRIDGE ‘Bang The Drum (Omnia Remix)’AVA “Omnia is on fire at the moment, amazing remix of an awesome tune.”

02. ANDY MOOR FEAT JESSICA SWEETMAN‘In Your Arms’AVA Recordings “Quite a unique vocal style, and a great person to have worked with.”

03. WILL HOLLAND FEAT JEZA ‘Every Heartbeat (Beat Service

Remix)’ Enhanced Recordings “Beat Service turn in a dancefloor bomb that we will be hearing lots of over the summer.”

04. GENIX ‘Nytra’ Anjunabeats “A nice laid back summer melody and groove worthy of any beach visit.”

05. SEAN TYAS ‘Lekta’AVA Recordings “A continuation of Sean’s new style, with filthy chopped basslines and sublime

melody.”

06. FARUK SABANCI FEAT. JOSIE ‘Wake Up’AvA Recordings “Gorgeous trancer evoking feelings of yesterday with a modern/nostalgic twist.”

07. OMNIA & IRA‘The Fusion’ Coldharbour Recordings “This has been in my box for a while now, and it shows no sign of wanting to leave.”

08. NORIN & RAD‘Pistol Whip’ Anjunabeats “These guys have played an integral part in all of my sets recently.”

09. ALLURE FEAT EMMA HEWITT ‘Stay Forever (Nitrous Oxide Remix)’Magik

Muzik “Big remix that will be tearing some clubs apart this summer.”

10. TRITONAL FEAT. CHRISTINA SOTO ‘Everafter’ Air Up There “Lots of intricate Tritonal production under the voice of their favourite vocalist.”

With its quake-inducing bass, radio traffic vox, bleeping sub-riffs, F1 tempo and lashings of 303 all wrapped in a slickly polished production, the ‘Original Mix’ won’t disappoint A.P. fans. The first single from their new album, TIP’s en-masse remix spectrum is wheeled out, with Hujaboy, Sandman, A Team, Yurika and Piatto all fielding options inside the psy range. Nothing’s beating the ‘Original’ for me, though.

Eximinds

Summer Again Infinity 6.5

Eximinds seem to be clocking up four tracks/remixes a month. Let’s hope ‘Summer Again’ isn’t the first sign of next-big-thing fatigue. The track is far from a disaster, with some pleasing riffs and decent production. It’s not the effortlessly persuasive fare we’ve come to expect, though. On the remix, Solis and Sean Truby set the drum- selector to ‘piston’ and turn out a reasonable rework with an unexpected twist at the end of the drop.

Juventa & Answer42

Like These Eyes Enhanced Recordings 7.0

An interesting getting-together this, as Juventa’s starry-eyed melodics meet Answer42’s Euro house kicks. Their respective contributions aren’t hard to spot. The shimmery, indistinct vocals, fleeting, faintly disco-ish touches and lapping aquatic sounds in the break are all trademarks of the latter, while the more thrusting backing track and higher octave notes are Juventa through-and-through. Nice track altogether, but it does lose a bit of stimulus post-break.

Orjan Nilsen

Endymion Armind 8.5

Orjan has an ability to turn a chilled intro into a runaway juggernaut quicker than you can boil an egg. Using little else than razor-wire synths and booming beats and bass, ‘Endymion’ becomes speaker TNT.

Richard Durand

Vs. North America Black Hole Recordings 7.5

Durand’s ambitious globe- circumnavigating collaboration concept arrives on American shores. Cheating ever so slightly (his authorised biography says he went to school in Kent!), Oakenfold is the regional collaborator. ‘Crashed’ might be a one-note pony, but at least it’s a teeth-itchingly-catchy one. ‘Stand Again’, meanwhile, mashes hard-tech with dubstep, to middling effect. For the third EP running, it’s the pro-am team-up (with the wonderfully- named ‘Huge Euge’) that tops the pile. Bouncy tech with standout FX, ‘Signs’ crushes it.

Sean Tyas & Giuseppe Ottaviani

Arcobaleno VANDIT 8.5

‘Arcobaleno’ doesn’t have an untested sound in its entire runtime. Giuseppe and Sean have created an epic, piano- led piece, with fluttering synth notes that build and multiply to a sizeable, convincing crescendo. What this track lacks in originality, it makes up for with chutzpah and gusto. There’s simply no keeping a good track down!

Super8 & Tab feat Jan Burton

Black Is Back Anjunabeats 8.0

After proclaiming that ‘Black Is The New Yellow’ in 2010, the flying Fins underline their noir love again here. The ‘Classic Club Mix’ is ruled by Burton’s throaty, cogent vocal, with S8&T’s backing lacking a K.O. hook. There’s no lack of those on their ‘Club Mix’, though — it’s positively awash with killer effects and ‘ooh yes’ moments. Had Jan’s vocal not done a bizarre vanishing act here, this could have shone pretty highly.

Will Rees

Move Full Tilt 8.0

The Full Tilt label (and by proxy the boys themselves) can do little wrong at the moment. Will Rees has a spikey tech-powered number on the go here. Fuelled by sounds that really stand out — the livewire percussion being just one — it achieves ignition well inside the first minute. Handling the remix with a flourish, Matthew Nagle consigns the trance to ‘Move’’s atmospheric drop and amps that pots- ’n’-pans percussion to the max.
