The images that I have in my head are a little bit darker. I find it hard to explain, but I know what I am thinking...”

WEAPONS OF DANCEFLOOR

DESTRUCTION Not that an explanation is necessarily needed. Maceo Plex’s music says it all, serving as Eric’s cathartic voice in a world beset by anxiety. For a fairly unassuming guy, his tracks speak volumes. The relentless arm of machinery, a disquieting sense of digital sexuality and a creeping tide of stark dystopia all reoccur. There’s a lot of stuff going down politically — and, then, there is just a really nice beat to the record!”

But an external question looming over our future is not the only rift currently affecting Eric. A personal, creative battle has taken place in his work since the inauguration of Maceo Plex. alternative musical personas, when Maceo Plex tracks slotted in alongside Maetrik, indicating a meeting of the two separate worlds. “It’s happening a lot lately,” he admits. “After that, I started finding a way to combine the two. The darker element to Maetrik with the groove-

based melodies and lyrics of Maceo Plex, and I think I have found a really good combination.”

Regardless of what happens next, whether Maceo Plex prevails or succumbs to the iron fist of Maetrik, what we can be sure of is that, regardless of his incarnation,
