global audience? The self-confessed ‘trance family’ seems to be united by this kind of unparalleled reach. “Radio stations, especially A State of Trance, are essential in helping artists reach the global audience. Without these stations, it would be a lot harder for people to find out what trance songs they love and which artists they like. ASOT is important because it gives the artists and listeners a chance to connect with each other globally. It doesn’t matter where you are or what someone is doing, at school, work, in a taxi, that’s what trance family is about... coming together and uniting for the love of the music.”
What do you make of the current state of EDM and the climate around it in the USA? It seems like everyone wants in on the act, even Wall Street and Rolling Stone Magazine! “I think the United States EDM scene is growing extremely fast, as it’s now made its way into mainstream Top 40 music. Three years ago, you would never hear a tune on the radio that was heavily influenced by electronic music, but now it’s common. Also, with all the festivals and nightclubs throwing huge events, I feel that EDM in the States is finally here to stay. People love a party, they want to escape from the routine and they want to dance with their friends. A lot of EDM songs become like anthems for people, depending where they are in their life.”
What do you have coming up next in terms of releases and tour dates? Have you played any of the large festivals that seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment? I have two new singles coming out on Armada, an instrumental banger called ‘UFO’ and a vocal track called ‘Fly Away’ featuring Emma Lock. I’m also finishing up a remix for BT & Arty featuring Nadia Ali called ‘Must Be The Love’ which I’m really excited about. As far as tour dates go, I’ll be spending a lot of time in Europe, especially Ibiza this summer and have a lot of festivals to look forward to such as Electronic Family, Global Gathering, Foinkudes Beach, and Maya Fest.”
You made it into the EDM scene before it blew up. What advice would you give any young hopefuls wanting to follow you today? “Never give up on any of your dreams, set your goals to something and work your hardest to achieve it.”
Complete the sentence. If I wasn’t making music, I would... “Be a chef and own my own restaurant.”
