THE Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh has reopened after a multimillion pound refurbishment. The UK’s flagship Sheraton Hotel


now offers fully-refurbished guest rooms, over 14,000 square feet of newly-renovated meeting and event space and a new restaurant and bar. The hotel also has a Sheraton Fitness centre, a Sheraton Club Lounge and the Link@Sheraton facility – a unique communications hub in the lobby. The re-launch is part of the


brand’s ongoing revitalisation effort which has seen investment of more than USD$6 billion in new hotels and renovations. It is Edin- burgh's newest five-star hotel and is located adjacent to the city's International Conference Centre. The 269 new-look guest rooms


have a 'contemporary Scottish style' with frosted glass-walled bathrooms, natural furnishings and Scottish art, plus signature Sheraton Sweet Sleeper beds. There's also a newly-installed Sheraton Club Floor and lounge. The hotel is also home to the a


FRASER UPGRADES


FRASERS Hospitality has announced the completion of a major refurbishment at its London Canary Wharf property which has resulted in an increase in accommodation from 63 to 96 apartments. The refurbishment, which


cost in excess of £2.5million, adds more studios and one- bedroom properties at the expense of the two and three bedroom options. Fraser Place also has a gym for guests and features the Marina Café for breakfasts. Guus Bakker, chief operating


officer for Frasers Hospitality Europe & Middle East, says: “Client demand indicated that two and three bedroom accommodation were not a priority and so we have replanned these into more studios and one bedroom apartments which is what our customers require."

• CITYBASE Apartments has launched Citybase Connect, an application that gives TMCs, HBAs and corporate travel departments real-time availability and instant booking of serviced apartments through their existing systems. Third parties can now seamlessly connect to Citybase for apartment information including cost, location, facilities, description and photographs. They will also have access to live availability with instant booking and confi rmation.

CITADINES ADDS TOUCH OF PRESTIGE


• THE Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor has completed a £1.3million restoration and upgrade programme to the hotel. Situated in the heart of Glasgow’s bohemian West End, the hotel now offers 97 stylish and fully refreshed bedrooms, including new design features, new beds and fresh carpeting.


• SOFITEL has expanded further in the Middle East with the opening of its fi rst property in Abu Dhabi. Located at the eastern tip of Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, the hotel is situated within walking distance of the seafront and close to the business and fi nancial centre. It is part of the new Capital Plaza Complex and features ten conference and meeting rooms, with nearly 2,600 square metres of conference facilities. From the ballroom to board meeting rooms and business centre, a variety of confi gurations can host events for up to 1,000 people.


• THE Revere Hotel Boston Common has opened as the city’s newest independent, luxury boutique hotel. The property features 356 guest rooms, the Emerald Lounge, a fi lm and live entertainment venue called Theatre 1, and a versatile, multipurpose setting for meetings and events named Space 57.


THE ASCOTT Limited has unveiled its London Trafalgar Square property as a Citadines Prestige Apart’hotel following a nine-month, £6million renovation. The new-look property has 187


studio, one and two-bedroom apartments, all featuring air conditioning, free wifi access, flatscreen TVs, kitchens and bathrooms. There’s also a 24-hour manned reception desk, business area, breakfast area and car park. Promotional rates start from £150


per studio per night with no minimum stay requirement. Two other properties in London (South Kensington and Holborn- Covent Garden) and three in Paris have been upgraded in the last two years, with further locations in Belgium and France also set to undergo a makeover. Ascott, the world’s largest


serviced apartment owner and operator, is on track to build a portfolio of 40,000 apartments worldwide by 2015.


• HOTEL Berlin has completed the fi nal phase of a signifi cant renovation project. Located in the German capital city, the Great Hotels of the World member hotel has benefi tted from a 30million euro overhaul that includes refurbishment of the lobby, the hotel's Classic Wing, its fi tness and wellness area and work on 200 new Premium rooms and 26 new conference suites. The four-star superior hotel is now one of the largest in the city, featuring 700 guestooms with free wifi , 42-inch LED TVs, rain showers and soundproof windows.
