Dear Irish Beauty... Star Letter

Dear Irish Beauty,

I am writing to say how much I enjoyed visiting the Irish Beauty Show in March. I had visited a couple of shows in the past, but this was by far the best one! I have been very careful with spending money in my salon because business is not as busy as it used to be, but there were so many amazing offers at the show that I could buy the new nail products and spray tan kit that I'd been saving up for, and still had some money left to treat myself!

I also met some lovely like-minded people and was especially excited to meet the Irish Beauty team! Thank you!

Susan Boyle, Dublin 3

Ed: Thanks for your email Susan, it's great to receive such good feedback. Readers can see a full review of last month's show in our May issue.

As this month’s star letter Susan wins a year’s free membership to AIT. Dear AIT,

Just wanted to thank you for the coach you provided for us yesterday (Monday 12th March). We had a great day at the Irish Beauty Show, tried out lots of new products and equipment and spent lots of money! It was a very worthwhile and educational trip for the students, we all really enjoyed it.

Dear Irish Beauty,

I wish to start off this letter by saying how much I look forward to receiving your magazine each month. I qualified as a beauty therapist a few years ago and I have to say I love every minute of it!

My query is: I haven't worked as a full time therapist in two years due to pregnancy and health issues. Although I'm delighted to say that's all behind me now, I really want to get back into the sector again. Are there any refresher courses that don't cost the earth, or do any of your readers have any advice for me to get started again? I worked with Dermalogica products.

Irene Kilkenny, Galway I love Irish Beauty magazine because... Karen Dingle, recently qualified mobile therapist, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin

"I like to find out what new products are being advertised and what special offers different companies are running. It helps me to compare prices and save more money."

Dear Donna (IB Acting Deputy Editor),

I recently read your article about skin needling (IB March, issue 76) and I wanted to offer a word of caution to readers who are considering offering this treatment. They should make sure that they only purchase equipment and training from a reputable company - there have been many reports of 'copycat' needle rollers coming into the country through the internet offering cut price equipment and no training. If you have ever seen this treatment being carried out you will understand how important it is that it is only done by a fully trained and insured practitioner.

Whilst the results that can be achieved through the treatment are fantastic, it's also very important that you explain the treatment to your client properly - skin needling is not like having a regular anti- ageing facial, the skin is pierced and it can take up to 48 hours for any redness to go.

Caroline Gifford Address supplied

Ed: We would fully back Caroline's advice - always check the credentials of any beauty equipment supplier and ensure that their training is accredited to ensure that you can gain insurance for a treatment.
