12. European Union Law
This module aims to introduce you to the general constitutional and legislative structure of the European Union. It also explores the operation of EU law, considering its relationship with domestic law and explains the function and application of some of the substantive legal provisions.
Stage 3 – Optional Modules (students are required to select three from the below choice of five)
13. Company Law
The module is designed to provide students with an understanding and a grasp of the essentials of substantive Company Law. It is intended to give students the understanding and skills to deal confidently with any aspect of Company Law.
14. Family Law
This module aims to provide a thorough grounding in the basics of family law concerning: marriage and its termination, nullity, separation and financial and property settlements, cohabitation and the law, legal issues relating to domestic violence.
This module also aims to provide an introduction to Child Law concerning the rights and status of the child, parentage and parental responsibility.
15. Law and ethics
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the key principles of jurisprudence in relation to ethics. It aims to then introduce the student to the influence of ethical and legal principles within the context of business and commerce and will facilitate the opportunity to apply appropriate theories to a number of contemporary issues.
16. International Commercial Law
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the laws governing the trading of goods on the international marketplace. It aims to examine the development and influence of the laws governing such export trading, legal
relationships between the parties, the nature of the particular types of contracts and the rights and liabilities that arise. Emphasis is placed on the practical implications of these laws for individuals and companies trading internationally.
17. Employment Law
To enable the student to develop an understanding of the various rights, obligations, responsibilities and potential liabilities arising from the employment relationship, as well as to gain an appreciation of the wider social, economic and political context within which the legal rules operate.
Assessment
Students will undertake a range of assessments, including essays, case studies, portfolios, presentations, problem scenarios, and examinations.
Duration of Programme
The LLB is normally completed within four to six years.
Entry Requirements • Two good ‘A ‘ Level passes (grade A-C) or equivalent
• GCSE English and mathematics at grade ‘C’ or above (or equivalent)
• English ability equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.0 if English is not first language.
