IQD Launches High Spec AT-Cut Crystals

Products has launched a new range of high specification crystals for spe- cialist applications such as military, radar and pagers. Manufactured at the
company’s IQD FOQ division in Germany, the crystals are available in a variety of pack- age styles including UM1, HC49, HC43CW (TO8) and HC45CW. For the highest possible “Q” factor, customers should specify the Cold Weld (CW) packages. The “Q” factor is affect-
ed by the quality of the blank, surface finish (lapping), mounting technique and seal- ing. The higher the “Q” fac- tor, the better the crystal. The higher the frequency the more important the “Q” factor is to the design engineer. The maximum attainable short-term stability of a crystal also depends on this value. A wide frequency range is avail-
able including 10 to 42MHz at funda- mental mode, 10 to 125MHz at 3rd harmonic and 70 to 175MHz at 5th harmonic. This is pushing the design limits of quartz crystals, since the thinness of the blank becomes unworkable beyond this point. The new crystals offer excep-
