December, 2011 Weidmuller Intros Transient Protection
Richmond, VA — Weidmuller is adding 80 VSSC models to its Varitector range, giving customers new low-cost, high-density options, for lightning and other transient pro- tection for control equipment. Recently awarded UL (497B) approvals, the VSSC range com- pletes the Varitector surge product offering for signaling, which includes
distribution applications, to complete an extensive DIN-rail mounted surge protection offering for industrial installations. Both ranges provide a combina-
tion of wire-to-ground and wire-to- wire protection, include high quality terminations for field connections, and also make a ground path via the (grounded) DIN-rail. A combination

and models with integral disconnects
to make testing easy. Contact: Weidmuller, 821

Solvent-Free 2-Part Silicone from Nusil
Carpinteria, CA — NuSil Technology LLC has unveiled R-2188, a solvent- free, two-part, translucent silicone system. R-2188 can be used as a com- pliant, high-strength adhesive and encapsulant in power electronics applications specifically requiring a highly insula- tive material. The new formula-

hazardous area and SIL options. The new VSSC models have 4-
or 6-pole rugged, compact terminal- sized housings for DIN-rail mount- ing. Targeted for measurement, con- trol and fieldbus applications, typi- cally in Water and Waste sectors, VSSC is rated for discharge currents up to 20kA (8/20µs). The company’s VSSC range
complements the existing SPD II range aimed at low voltage power
of gas discharge tubes, varistors and suppression diodes, in single- or multi-stage configuration are used to protect nominal voltages between 5VDC and 230VAC. They protect analog current and voltage loops, DC and AC status signals, and a wide variety of serial interface and tele- phone network installations. A status monitoring option

tion is a non-corrosive material with a low mod- ulus that overcomes stress between materials with different Coeffic - ients of Thermal Expan - sion (CTE). Due to its high dielectric strength, it can withstand medium and high voltage; ther- mal and mechanical stress; and long, elevated operating temperatures. R-2188 has a variable cure
schedule, low shrinkage, and is easi- ly repairable. It is effective in pot- ting, encapsulating and coating mod- ules, relays, power supplies, delay
lines or complete electronic units, as well as a dip-coating for encapsulat- ing components and printed circuit boards. A low-viscosity elastomer with a long work time, R-2188 is also suitable for automatic dispensing.
