TALK TALK HOME Agency:CHI & Partners Production: Stink Vfx: Glassworks

Glassworks took two months to complete its post production and vfx work on Stink’s intricate Adam Berg-directed stop-frame animation Talk Talk Home for CHI & Partners. It enhanced the facial expressions of many of commercial’s characters and worked on items such as the cuckoo clock and snow globe. Glassworks work included shot clean up and rig removal, and it also created the computer screens the characters write on towards the end of the spot.

AUDI HUMMINGBIRD Agency: BBH London Production: Knucklehead Vfx: The Mill

Audi’s fully-cg spot, directed by Knucklehead’s Daniel Barber for BBH London, features a mechanical bird brought to life by The Mill, which worked closely with Barber and BBH’s creative team to develop its look. The brief was to imagine what a bird designed by Audi would look like. The Mill created the bird’s design, making it look like it was built from mechanical and car parts. It also animated the cg creation to appear “playful, elegant and agile”. Once the overall look and feel and movement of the bird was established, The Mill then created the surreal world the bird flies through, and the many characters it comes across during the spot.

LOTTO MONKEY SANCTUARY Agency: AMV Production: Partizan Vfx: Framestore

Lotto’sMonkey Sanctuary depicts a bizarre way to spend a Lotto jackpot win – on a five-star monkey sanctuary. Directed by Partizan’s Traktor for AMV, the performances of the chimp, orangutan and gorilla in the spot were enhanced by Framestore’s vfx work. The parts were played by performers in orangutan, chimpanzee and gorilla suits during the shoot, with Framestore creating and animating face replacements for the chimp and orangutan to provide “more exciting and realistic expressions”. It started out by modelling and texturing faces to match reference material, then the fur was matched to the fur on the suits to ensure a seamless blend with the shot material. The replacement faces mimick the real-life behaviour of the creatures, which involved Framestore watching numerous natural history docs to find suitable references. The gorilla’s face didn’t need replacing as it was an animatronic, although Framestore made minor tweaks to its eyes and facial expressions.
